It doesn’t take long for one living in Hong Kong to become immersed in Chinese culture and their calendar. Today is bigger than Christmas and the western calendar’s January 1st countdown – it is the start of the Chinese Lunar Year. According to the Chinese zodiac, this year is particularly special year – the Year of the Dragon.

In a simultaneous launch at the CES in Las Vagas and the Opera House, Sydney, Dell has unveiled it’s new Ultrabook: the Dell XPS 13. Weighing in at under 3lbs (1.35 kg) with a carbon fibre base and only 6mm at its thickest, this new addition to the XPS range is aimed squarely at the prosumer market – targeted at professionals but sold through consumer channels.

Canon has just launched its most advanced digital still camera to date – the Canon PowerShot G1 X. I’ve watched the Powershot G Series evolve over the last 10 or so years (having personally owned a G3, G10 and now G11) so I’m excited to see this next step.

A few days ago, I posted my quick review on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. In short, it’s a superb phone (in my opinion 2011′s best) however one of its major downsides is its battery life. Thankfully there has been an improvement in battery time when compared with the Samsung Galaxy S 2 out of the box, yet when using it with my normal operational style, I found the battery only lasted till around 1pm (fully charged at 7am). This is totally unacceptable in this day and age of what are supposed to be power-efficient dual core processors and higher capacity lithium ion batteries!

Before I start talking about my Samsung Galaxy Nexus, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and recovering well from what should have been a time of feasting and celebration. I for one, am deliberately cutting back on all things tasty, at least for the next couple of weeks! Now back to the topic at hand, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. As most of you have seen in my tweets, I have already rated it as the best Android that I have played with in 2011. Coupled with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich aka known as ICS on the web, it sets a blistering pace for all other Androids to follow.

Yes, I’m a Marvel fan.
Spiderman is my favourite super-hero of all time and had me trying to scale walls and study spiders more than I should have as a youngster. I also admired Spidey’s sense of humour and quest to do good with the powers that were given to him. It’s so unfortunate that he was not part of the Avengers, particularly with, what looks to be an awesome action-packed movie coming up in 2012. Although it doesn’t feature my favourite friendly neighbourhood web-slinger, it does showcase some of Marvel’s other kick-ass heroes: IronMan, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk!
