When I first heard about the impending discontinuation of the Windows XP, I was just a bit shocked in spite of the fact that I’ve seen it coming with the advent of Windows Vista. Unfortunately, this early on, Windows Vista is less than perfect and is considered quite resource-hungry.
Can you imagine running Windows Vista on, say, the Eee PC or any of those mini-notebooks we’ve featured lately? These machines are quite scant in specs, equipped mostly with just the bare essentials. So, Microsoft’s just given low-cost laptop manufacturers until the year 2010 to sell machines pre-installed with Windows XP. The same goes for low-cost desktops. It’s unclear what would happen afterwards though; but Microsoft is reportedly working on a way to address the need for a suitable OS for these affordable devices. A new platform meant for low-spec systems, perhaps? I can’t wait to see how this unfolds.
