Bought an iPhone? $100 Rebate Now Available!

If you bought an iPhone for $599 in the U.S., you'll now be entitled to a $100 rebate. Why? Apple have just reduced the price of the 8GB iPhone to $399.

I think Steve Jobs is being too generous here as price reductions are always expected with new technology.
Nice gesture but smart?

Gecko Nano Glove Black for 2nd Gen iPod Nano: Happy New Financial Year!

Gecko Nano Glove Black for 2nd Gen iPod Nano Product PageWell the old Financial Year has gone and a new one has slipped right in. Hope you got yourself a good bargain on a new gadget! I'm sure one of our old friends (Jason) did, scoring himself a new 2nd Generation iPod Nano. For the record, I hate you Jason! However, i'm sure he'll be babying that new toy of his and what better way to do that than with the Gecko Nano Glove Black for 2nd Gen iPod Nano. Smarter than your average silicon case, the Gecko Nano Glove is textured for non-slip grip, just like the little lizard it was named after. The tough silicon it's made of adds the least bulk out of all types of cases, except maybe cling wrap. It also has cut outs for accessing the Nano's click wheel and dock connection.

iPhone too 1.0ish?

Australian IT News reports that features such as sluggish network speeds, high cost and poor battery life may deter some buyers from picking up the iPhone which is set to be released through AT&T outlets on the U.S. this Friday.

I agree, however there will always be those who will be more concerned about gadget-cred than possibly owning a lemon. (I'm a big fan of the iPhone just for the record)

Check out this guy, reported by Apple Insider as being the first iPhone Camper! Yup, that's right, he's 4 days early and keen as anything to get his hands on an iPhone...

Here's a great YouTube video on the new Apple iPhone. Too bad it hasn't got inbuilt GPS or a proper PIM - I would have been tempted...still very nice though.

Only a couple days till it is released in the U.S.

XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod (5thGen) Black

XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod (5thGen) Black Product PageThe XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod (5thGen) Black is XtremeMac's latest FM transmitter for the iPod with Video. They've actually taken a page out of Griffin's playbook and have integrated the tuning with the iPod's own screen, much like the iTrip Nano. It's a great concept and adds to what they call "seamless integration". Also inline with their "seamless integration" is a pass through dock connector so you can charge and sync your iPod without having to take the Airplay Boost off. The Airplay Boost is powered by the iPod itself so if you're using one of these in the car, it might be a good idea to grab a car charger as well.

Features of the XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod (5thGen) Black:
- External antenna boosts signal for superior transmission
- Seamless integration with on-screen display and tuning
- Three programmable station presets
- Pass-through dock connector lets you charge for unlimited playtime

Griffin Amplifi iPod Speaker System: AmplifiPod

Griffin Amplifi iPod Speaker System Product PageHere's another sub $300 iPod speaker system, this time from Griffin, one of the world's most prolific iPod accessory makers. The Griffin Amplifi iPod Speaker System is one of three speakers for the iPod that Griffin have released lately and although this may be new territory for them, the outlook seems fairly good. Enclosed in a wooden enclosure, the Amplifi is reported to put out great sound for a speaker of its size. What I really like about it is its hidden sub woofer design. Unless you actually flip the unit upside down, you won't see it! And much like other iPod speakers out in the market, it wouldn't be complete without its own remote control. Oh and it also has a cool blue glowing light around the volume knob. Not that you probably didn't notice it already.

Features of the Griffin Amplifi iPod Speaker System:
- Compact acoustically-tuned wooden enclosure
- iPod-ready with docking slot and 6 iPod adapters
- 3.5mm stereo input jack supports all players
- Two 2.75 inch neodymium high/midrange speakers
- 5 inch woofer and bass reflex port
- Slim 6-function IR remote
- Charges iPod during use
- Includes AC Power Cable (100-240V AC)

Safari Browser : All talk and no game

On the Safari Browser web page it boldly reads "The world's best browser" yet when the beta version was released only a couple of days ago vulnerabilities were uncovered immediately. It's funny how Apple have always talked about being immune from viruses on there machines and software. Welcome to the real world Apple.

I would think twice about trying this browser out in its current state. Heck, stick with IE if you can't use Firefox! :)

Apple's Web Safari Browser : Now available for Windows

Safari for Windows Image LinkWell well well, it seems Apple are trying to make inroads into Microsoft's domain by launching a public beta version of Safari 3 Web Browser which can be run on Window's machines. According to Apple, it's the fastest internet web browser available delivery web pages twice as fast as Internet Explorer and 1.6 times faster than Firefox.

Ok, let's give Apple the benefit of the doubt and assume that these speed statements are correct, a more important question is "Is it secure?"

Apple's always bragging about having virus-free machines but Windows web-browsers are a whole new ballgame. Could this move into the Windows browser space do more harm than good?

Who's game to try it out?

Apple Mac OSX Leopard: Vista What?

Apple website Well, that's what I get for having an early night in. As the resident Mac fanboy at Mr.Gadget, I am disappointed to say that I completely missed the unveiling of the new Mac OSX: Leopard. OSX has to be by far the best operating system i've ever used. And I have used a grand smacking total of two (2) different operating systems in my lifetime! Which considering 95% of the population will only ever use one, I think i'm one up on most people.

Back to OSX Leopard, there's a slew of new and improved features on this thing, including a revamped desktop, new look file browser (Finder), system restore which can also restore files and a whole heap of other goodies. I probably don't have to say this (because most people using a Mac probably already know) but the only down side to Leopard, is its delayed release until the end of the year. But considering the delay Vista had, a few months delay is more like a nap than a coma.

XtremeMac Tango 2.1 iPod Speaker System: Tango, Salsa, Swing and More!

XtremeMac Tango 2.1 iPod Speaker System Product PageFor some great thumping iPod sounds you can't go past the XtremeMac Tango 2.1 iPod Speaker System. This iPod speaker system docks pretty much all click-wheel iPods, ie. 4th Generation and up. It features a wireless remote that controls everything from track to volume to bass and treble so you won't need to get out of your seat that you've already warmed and moulded to your backside. The Tango also has an S-Video and 3.5mm A/V jack if you want to connect it to your TV. And let's face it, most TV's out there have less than thumping speakers. One feature that caught me was it's gradual volume change when powering up. This means you won't jump out of your skin if/when someone decides to leave the last track played on the highest volume setting! The Tango, not for April Fool's day pranks.

Features of the XtremeMac Tango 2.1 iPod Speaker System:

Gecko Nano Sports Frost Case for 2nd Gen iPod Nano: Like it's not thin enough!

Gecko Nano Sports Frost Case for 2nd Gen iPod Nano Product PageNow here's a neat idea. A silicon case for the 2nd Gen iPod Nano that easily attaches to an arm band for workout sessions. The Gecko Nano Sports Frost Case for 2nd Gen iPod Nano is just that! This is one of the more thought out designs in my opnion. Why get two sets of cases for different occassions when you can have the best of both worlds with one? The Gecko Nano Sports Case also has a hidden key/money pocket in the arm band because I seriously don't know where (or how) you can hide things when wearing spandex! The silicon glove is also well designed with an open bottom for easily attaching accesories like the ear phones or an FM transmitter. Now if they can only integrate Bluetooth and Wifi on the arm band....

Gecko Nano Glove Frost for 2nd Gen iPod Nano: Like a Frosty Glove!

Gecko Nano Glove Frost for 2nd Gen iPod Nano Product PageLet's face it, as great as the Apple iPod's are at being mp3 players, they are also as equally great at being scratched up. You could breath and it would have a scratch, even after some colgate, floss and listerine! We now have the Gecko Nano Glove Frost for 2nd Gen iPod Nano on our line up for those of you lucky enough to have a 2nd Generation iPod Nano. I've seen a few cases in my time for iPods and PDA's and the biggest trade off with cases is the bulk they add. Silicone cases like the Gecko Nano Glove are by far the best in terms of protection and keeping the nice slim form factor the iPod Nano's are famous for. They are durable, washable (with the Nano not in the case of course), fitting and look funky. And like the name says, these Gecko Nano Cases have the non-slip Gecko grip!

Features of the Gecko Nano Glove Frost for 2nd Gen iPod Nano:
- Non-slip Gecko grip
- Super tough and durable
- Fits 2nd Generation Apple iPod Nano
- Cut outs for easy access to the click wheel and dock

iPhone by Apple : iLike!

Apple have done it again with the iPhone! They've upped the anti on their competitors, however this time it's the mobile giants who are being challenged. Apple's new product offering the Apple iPhone looks superb! The three main features of the iPhone are mobile phone, iPod and Internet communication functionality.

What I like about Apple is that they are so innovative. Take for example the iPod - Apple took a serious look at MP3 players and asked the simple question of "how can I make this device user friendly?" A few years later more than 50 million units have been sold.

If I were Nokia, Motorola or Sony Ericsson I would be working pretty hard to come up with something to combat the iPhone threat.

Apple iPhone Product Description
iPhone combines three products - a revolutionary mobile phone, a widescreen iPod with touch controls, and a breakthrough Internet communications device with desktop-class email, web browsing, maps, and searching - into one small and lightweight handheld device. iPhone also introduces an entirely new user interface based on a large multi-touch display and pioneering new software, letting you control everything with just your fingers. So it ushers in an era of software power and sophistication never before seen in a mobile device, completely redefining what you can do on a mobile phone.

You can watch the Apple iPhone Keynote Speech here.

We'll be getting Apple iPhone accessories as soon as we can.
