Over the last few weeks, we’ve introduced two superb Android phones to you that I would consider giving up my iPhone for: Samsung Galaxy Nexus and the Motorola RAZR. Here’s another top recently announced Android that I would recommend if you are Android-inclined: the HTC Rezound. Our friends at BGR also support us in saying that it makes the cut for being one of the best Android phones out there on the market.
Finally! The wait is over for millions of loyal Verizon customers who have been waiting for the Apple iPhone 4 to be both compatible and available on the Verizon CDMA network. Since 2007, AT&T has had exclusive rights on the iPhone in the U.S. I didn’t realise what the big issue was, until I was in Las Vegas for CES 2011 only a couple of weeks ago – to put it bluntly, the AT&T network is shocking. For most of the trade show, I was left without reception and experienced numerous black spots in the hotel I was staying in. I can now sincerely sympathize with Verizon / non-AT&T customers who want an iPhone 4 as well as a decent network to host it.
The Samsung Omnia II (i8000) is now available at Verizon in the United States and it’s a beauty. Major features that I like are its 3.7″ AMOLED screen, 5 Megapixel digital camera with editing capabilities on board and the snappy Opera 9.5 internet browser. Samsung were on a winning formula with the first Omnia, so with these enhancements and more, I’m anticipating that it will remain being one of Samsung’s mobile flagships.
Features of Samsung Omnia II (i8000):
- 3.7 inch WVGA AMOLED display
- Swype technology
- Samsung TouchQiz 2.0 interface
- Windows Mobile 6.5
- 5 MegaPixel digital camera with flash, autofocus
- Video recording and editing capabilities
- Opera 9.5 enhanced browser
- MicroSD card (expandable to 16GB)
- 8GB of built-in internal memory
- 3G Network compatible (Verizon)
Besides HTC, I believe that Samsung is the other major player who is helping keep Windows Mobile alive in the wake of the iPhone. Microsoft needs to be sending some generous gifts to these two for Christmas!
Below is a Samsung Omnia II (i8000) unboxing video by the folk at www.pocketnow.com.
The new LG Dare boasts a 3-inch touch screen with impressive handwriting recognition. It takes pics with the 3.2 megapixel camera & camcorder with advance features like face detection. Looks a little chunky but given its specs it may be a worthwhile compromise.
Features of the LG Dare:
3-inch touch screen
Video recorder which can record up to 15 frames per second
Oh yeah, it looks like Motorola isn’t giving up so soon on its phone manufacturing arm. Whatever fight the company has left seems to have been channeled into these new phones reportedly slated for a 2009 release because they look fine, gorgeous even.
It’s no secret by now that the BlackBerry Storm was released in a bad light with an operating system that was either not ready for public use or just unfortunately buggy. Complaints flooded the Internet (and I’m sure, telcos’ customer service departments) and were, at least, heard.
