And here comes HP with their much anticipated HP TouchPad which will be available to Australians from August 15. The biggest difference of this HP tablet in comparison with the major tablets out there on the market, i.e. iPad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and Motorola Xoom is that the HP TouchPad runs a different operating system called webOS which is best known for its multitasking capability.
Looks like a decent device and I hope to get to play with one soon but from the outset, I believe that HP TouchPad will do it tough in such a competitive field for a couple of reasons:
- It’s the first version of webOS catered for tablets
- Spec wise it’s nothing to write home about
- Shortage of apps
- So many more comparable and better alternatives (price and spec wise)
Having said that, I always love barracking for the underdog so I hope HP eventually do well especially with the Palm blood that now pulses through the organisation. Yes, my first PDA was a Palm
