Just a few days ago, the T-Mobile G1 got jailbroken, removing limits imposed upon an already open-source operating system. Since it IS open-source, it was easier for hackers to get through the inner workings of the phone and work on a jailbreak.

This is what a lot of people from all over the world might have been waiting for – the moment the T-Mobile G1 or the HTC Dream gets unlocked. From what I’ve heard, there’s an abundance of the first Google Android handset for sale on Ebay, but it’s useless if it can’t be used in other networks, especially in countries outside the USA.

According to the New York Times, T-Mobile might be offering the very first Google Android smartphone in the market. The smartphone in question is the HTC Dream handset, which we’ve been hearing of for quite a while, repackaged (or at least renamed) as the G1.

It makes totally perfect sense – allow your customers free access to the internet so that they will hang around longer, potentially order / consume more goods and services and increase the likelihood that they will do it all again tomorrow. Seems good in theory however it’s sad that many cafe owners (especially in Australia) are ignorant of the possibilities of converting the tech needs of their demographic into more revenue as many are often too focussed on the operational aspects of their businesses.
