What kind of gadget blog would this be if we didn’t pay respects to one of history’s all time gadget masters? I am of course talking about Steve Job’s recent resignation as CEO of Apple.

In the land of technology, gadgets and business, Steve Jobs is on the top of my list of people who I look up to. In his illustrious career at Apple, there are two things that stand out most and have been incredibly inspiring: firstly, his coming back to Apple and transforming the company from just another tech business into the world’s most admired company and secondly, his vision and drive to continually be  innovative and courageous in the technology space.

As a result, he has changed the way we use technology, for the better.

The other main thing I like about Steve Jobs is that he is a good guy who finished first – without knowing him personally, he presented himself to the world as a man of character – humble, hard-working, honest and genuine. Not to mention having a good sense of humor.

So, from me and many others, well done Steve. We applaud you and your career. You deserve your rest, and we are very glad that you’ll still be at Apple in some capacity!

To end this small tribute to Steve Jobs, I end with one of his quotes which very much applies to life:

 ”I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.”

Witness how Apple gadgets just get bigger and bigger!

Today, Apple announced the impending release of the new operating system for the iPhone which has been dubbed iPhone OS 4.0. The most important feature of this update is that it will allow multiple applications to run at the same time on the iPhone. The good news is that it won’t negatively impact battery life or performance.

In the video below you’ll see how just by double-tapping the home button that you’ll be able to see and scroll through apps running in the background. The bad news is that only the latest versions of the iPhone and iPod Touch will support multitasking (3GS & 2009 iPod Touch). I’ve already seen many tweets of friends and family talking about saving up to upgrade mid this year.

Other features of iPhone 4.0 include:

• App Folders : way to group and organise apps
• Improved Unified Inbox : brings all your mail accounts together
• Game Center: social network for gamers
• iBook Availability: Apple’s eBook store and reader will be available for iPhoners / iPod Touchers
• In-app Advertising: Allows iPhone OS devs to insert ads

All in all, this is a signficant upgrade and whilst not doing anything uber innovative, it will keep major iPhone-competitors at bay although the competition is getting fierce especially with the likes of the HTC Desire just around the corner.

Some interesting iPhone stats that Steve shared were:

• Average iPhone user spends 30 minutes a day using third party apps
• Soon have shipped 100 million iPhones and iPod Touchs by this U.S. Summer

The yearly Macworld Expo has become an event I look forward to in the recent years, but it seems next year will be the last I will ever hear of it. According to Apple, 2009′s Macworld Expo is the last one – Apple will be pulling out of the trade show ran by publishing company IDG.

A rumor debunked? I think not. A few days ago, news circulated that Apple has the power to switch off applications (which they’ve already paid for) from people’s iPhone 3Gs, if they deem the apps malicious. It didn’t take long for the “rumor” to be debunked. But guess what—Steve himself confirmed what’s now termed as the “kill switch.”
