Having worked in Asia for a couple of months last year has rekindled my fondness for martial arts movies. At the tail end of last year, I also had the opportunity to visit Beijing which only further increased my appreciation of Chinese culture. I guess this is why the newest movie by director, Benny Chan, “Shaolin” struck a chord with me. It took me back to the ancient places like the Forbidden City that I checked out in Beijing and helped me imagine what living conditions were like in that historical context.
