While it may not be as glamorous as other gadgets that make it to our front page, the Blackberry Bold 9700 Car Charger is nonetheless a very important one to many road warriors using the popular Blackberry Bold 9700. I’m not even going to try to sexy this mundane gadget up – just giving our BB9700 owners a headsup that they’re in stock and ready to ship anywhere in Australia.

As mentioned previously, we’ve received our first batch of Blackberry Bold 9700 Leather Cases by Piel Frama. To help get the word out on just how beautiful these cases are we decided to film a short video review. Thanks to my friend Jon for helping out (@qcko).
We loved how it’s made of high-grade cow leather and the fact each one is tenderly handcrafted thereby making each one unique. As you’ll see in the video, it fits the Piel Frama Blackberry Bold 9700 Leather Case fits the Blackberry Bold 9700 perfectly and provides stylish protection. It features cutouts at just the places for easy access to all hardware buttons and ports.

Here’s Verizon’s advertisement for the new Blackberry Storm 2. According to them, lightening can strike twice; hopefully it’ll hit the right spot this time! I say this as we reflect on the bugs that were well documented on the web with the first Blackberry Storm.
Not only are those bugs fixed, but Verizon is also pushing its new WiFi capabilities, ultra-responsive touch screen and tons of applications available.
Let’s keep our ears to the ground to see how this version fares.

According to reports, RIM’s BlackBerry Storm 2 – the touchscreen follow-up to the original Storm launched back in November last year will indeed include WiFi b/g along with EVDO Rev.A and 2100MHz UMTS (for roaming).
The BlackBerry Storm 2 from RIM leaked out specifications re-confirm news that the soon to be released smartphone is ditching out the problematic click touchscreen. The clicky touchscreen of the first Storm has been replaced with a more traditional touchscreen.
The BlackBerry Storm 9550 will also have a 3.2-megapixel camera, 360 x 480 capacitive touchscreen and use BlackBerry OS 5.0.
Photos of the BlackBerry Storm 2 leaked out a few months back, promising a powerful touchscreen smartphone, only this time with Wi-Fi.
Here’s a run down of the specifications for the BlackBerry 9550:
It was originally thought that the BlackBerry Storm 2 was going to be released last month, obviously, it did not happen. As of this writing, there is still no official release date for the device. We will keep you posted.

The summer of the smartphone is heating up as Research In Motion (RIM) introduced its latest BlackBerry device, called the Tour. But will it be enough to keep RIM king of the smartphone market?
The BlackBerry Tour is hitting store shelves at an important time for RIM, which has been reportedly taking a sales hit as carriers promote exclusive phones, such as the Palm Pre and the Apple iPhone 3GS.
In a research note published this week, it is noted that BlackBerry sales declined in June due to carriers focused marketing dollars and sales attention on iPhone and Pre over older BlackBerry handsets. Sales of BlackBerry devices remained solid with some US carriers, but they were down at most of them.
But now it looks like RIM has a new device to excite its base of business users and consumers, especially those looking for a smartphone they can take overseas.
Unlike its smartphone competitors, the BlackBerry Tour is not offered exclusively on a single carrier network. Making its phone available on multiple carrier networks is not unusual for RIM, which sells its products on all four major carrier networks. But typically carriers don’t make the devices available on the same day. In some ways, the non-exclusive arrangement could help RIM sell more devices because it greatly increases the potential sales base. But it might also hurt, if carriers focus more marketing attention and budget on promoting their exclusive phones.
It is yet to be seen how popular the new BlackBerry Tour will be. But at this point any new device from BlackBerry is likely better than none.
The new phone, which sports Bluetooth, GPS, a 3.2-megapixel camera, a full QWERTY keypad, and a high-resolution screen offers everything that BlackBerry lovers have come to expect. And it also comes equipped with a Quad-band radio that allows the phone to be used internationally on both CDMA and GSM networks. The addition of the 800MHz and 1900MHz radio for CDMA is particularly important for users traveling to Latin America and parts of Asia where CDMA is available on these frequencies.
The device is likely to appeal mostly to business customers, particularly those who travel, and existing BlackBerry users. For RIM the real question is whether the Tour can get enough momentum in the market to boost sales in July and August to reach its sales targets. The launch of so many other hot smartphones at one time presents a challenge for the company as it tries to push the Tour to the forefront of customers’ minds.

Looks like RIM’s getting serious about optical trackballs – first the Curve 8520 ditched the spinner and now it looks like the Onyx has been upgraded as well. That’s pretty much just as we’ve all expected ever since we first laid eyes on this 3G mash-up of the Bold and Curve 8900. We find optical trackballs to be pretty great. Of course, there’s no word on a ship date, but we’re hoping it’ll be soon.
We have been saying that this would be the case for long as we can remember, but today a new photograph has emerged which lends irrefutable evidence to our long-standing claim. The BlackBerry 9020, for now known by its codename Onyx, will be shipping out retail-style with an optical trackpad in lieu of the trackball. Based on the photograph above it’s impossible to tell if what we’re looking at is a late prototype or an early production unit, but seeing as the Onyx has already begun its factory journey we certainly can’t rule the later out.

Relief is on the way for many disgruntled Blackberry Storm owners. RIM has announced that a new version of the phone’s firmware is not too far away which addresses many of the gremlins that plagued the Blackberry Storm since its release.
Not only will the major bugs be addressed but there’ll also be some much-sought-after functionality included too, such as a full QWERTY keyboard in portrait mode that operates smoothly.
Here’s hoping that this latest version of the firmware finally gives the Storm the wings it deserves.

Great news for everyone already looking forward to the next-gen network connection. While HTC is already leading the pack with the HTC MAX 4G that’s recognized as the first GSM/WiMAX network in the world, RIM won’t get left behind; it’s reportedly already getting ready with 4G devices of its own.
