Australia loves the MSI Wind. At least the top tech magazines do, awarding the diminutive netbook more than just a few recommendations, putting it ahead of its competitors. It was a winner before anybody awarded it anything, but I’m sure MSI’s sticking its proverbial tongue out at the other netbooks in the market.

Asus revolutionized the laptop market with its Asus Eee PC subnotebook range that was released in October last year. Despite the first-mover advantage, arch-rival Acer looks to overtake Asus’ sales with forecasted sales of 6 million units by the end of 2008.

“The netbook segment is growing very nicely”, said Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci during a company investors conference call.

According to Asus cheif, Jerry Shen, sales for the Asus Eee line are currently close to the four million mark.

Unlike the more common seven to ten inch netbooks, Dell’s new offering went over a few inches to give you the Inspiron Mini 12. Yes, as you might have guessed from its name, this one’s got a full 12-inch screen. This is targeted towards those who are in constant need of mobile internet, even stressing on social networking sites most specifically, Twitter.

When Dell’s ultra-portable was first spotted, everybody called it the Mini-Inspiron. It seems, though, that it’ll take on a simpler name—Dell E. While the product it’s particularly targeting is quite obvious (Asus Eee, anyone?), it seems the Dell E is but one of Dell’s new line of ultra-portables.
