My oh my. Mobile World Congress is always full of juicy announcements and HTC didn’t let us down this year, with press releases on their new flagships the HTC Touch Diamond2 and the HTC Touch Pro2.
This post will specifically address the HTC Touch Diamond2 as I want to give credit to all the hard work HTC has done with this model alone.
First of all, behold the new version of the HTC Diamond:
Still a looker ain’t it?
What’s new about the HTC Diamond2?
Not only did HTC take feedback about the flaws of the previous version of the Diamond but they actually did something about it. The biggest problem with the old was battery life. A 900mAh battery meant that there was just enough juice to get you by on a busy day. With the HTC Touch Diamond2′s 1100mAh battery, they were able to get another 50% of standby time when used in WCDMA.

The Mobile World Congress 2009 is happening as we surf in Barcelona. Nokia, always someone to look for at these type of events, announced the Nokia N86 8MP smartphone.
As you’ve probably guessed by its name, one of the biggest features on this mobile phone is a 8MegaPixel camera. Before you let out that yawn, this camera comprises of Carl Zeiss optics, capable of 1/1000 shutter speed, duel LED flash and can video at 30fps. That’s four pluses over the iPhone’s camera!
Features of the Nokia N86 8MP:
Will be available by Q2 this year.
This gadget is feature packed and I would recommend it to anyone who likes taking decent snapshots on the go.
Built-in FM Transmitter is a very cool capability! Hoping to see more multimedia smartphones incorporate this.

Mobile solar chargers have been on the market for a couple of years now and they’re improving in terms of their designs and charging efficiency. It was only a matter of time till a savvy manufacturer like Samsung incorporated a solar-panel into a mobile phone.
That day has come – Samsung have just announced their first eco-centric mobile phone dubbed the Samsung Blue Earth.
Not only will it positively impact the environment through its solar-charging capability but also through its design and makeup; the Samsung Blue Earth is made up of recycled plastic!
Truly a “green” mobile.
Availability: UK shelves by second half of 2009.

Yet another iPhone look-alike is to hit the market in the next couple of weeks. I am of course talking about the LG Arena KM900. Its shape and interface clearly reflect Apple inspiration.
The main differences lie in slightly smaller size, OS, mobile TV capability and higher display resolution (800 x 480).

If you happen to be in Barcelona on the 16th of February, see if you can get to the Mobile World Congress Event where Acer plan to unveil their new Windows Mobile Smartphone.
Who else but Acer’s CEO Gianfranco Lanci will reveal Acer’s first entrant into the heavily competitive smartphone arena. With the likes of the Palm Pre, iPhone 3G, HTC Touch HD and Blackberry Storm, it would have to come out with some impressive punches to woo the judges.
Somehow, I think we shouldn’t expect too much from the rookie but who knows?

For those with a spare weekend and good knowledge of robotics, you may want to try this yourself – grab your T-Mobile G1 Android phone and tweak it so it can control your own little robot.
If you’re like me and lack both of the aforementioned, sit back and enjoy the handiwork of the more privileged.

The new LG Dare boasts a 3-inch touch screen with impressive handwriting recognition. It takes pics with the 3.2 megapixel camera & camcorder with advance features like face detection. Looks a little chunky but given its specs it may be a worthwhile compromise.
Features of the LG Dare:
Available at Verizon.

Curious to find out what the Palm Pre fuss is all about?
Phonescoop‘s video gives us an insightful preview to what could possibly be the closest thing to an iPhone 3G killer ever.
As mentioned in my previous Palm Pre post, I am attracted mostly by the speed of this new PDA phone. Built in QWERTY and cut ‘n’ paste functionality also brings happy thoughts to my head. This could be the phone the ends my iPhone love-affair…

No wonder why the LG Incite is one of the most popular Windows Mobile phones out at the moment. With things like haptic response, full-screen keyboard, suave design and above average performance it looks like this new kid on the block will be raising some eyebrows. Not to mention that it comes with one of my all time favorite Windows Mobile applications : Microsoft Voice Command!
LG Incite Software Review:
Here’s a insightful video review by the guys at PocketNow on the software that comes with the LG Incite:
