Existence of a desktop version of the MSI Wind was announced at the same time the Wind mini-note was officially unveiled at Computex. Now these low-end energy efficient desktops have gone into production; a business version will be available in Europe and Asia as early as July, while the consumer version will be released by September.

The yet to be released mini-note Acer Aspire One gets an early pre-release review from PC Magazine. It seems the Aspire One is set to be released in the US$399 price range. The ultra-portable weighs 2.1 pounds, has a glossy finish, and sports an 8.9-inch screen with 1,024 x 600 resolution.

Laptop Magazine reviewed the largest mini-notebook yet, the Asus Eee PC 1000H. The review had many good things to say about the mini-note, especially its spacious keyboard—the most spacious yet among all Eee PC variants.

Way before all these new mini-notes sprung like mushrooms, CNET reported on Sony‘s reluctance to join the low-cost notebook market. ” …don’t expect Sony to get into the low-end laptop race any time soon,” the Sony spokesman said. But if reports are to be believed, it seems that Sony is getting to swim right in using the VIA OpenBook Mini-Note Reference.

Small is so in, Computex was riddled with these diminutive devices. Another mini-note to watch out for is the Acer Aspire One. The Aspire One is an 8.9-inch notebook than runs on a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor. Just like the other mini-notes, this one comes in either Linux or Windows platform as well.

In this year’s Computex in Taiwan, the sheer number of ultra-portables is enough to make your head hurt. Aside from the previously discussed, much-anticipated Asus Eee PC 901 and 1000, MSI also released what many are expecting to compete with the Eee notebook PC for the mini-note throne—the 10-inch MSI Wind.
