More iPhone drama internationally. This time it’s in the form of a misleading ad created by Apple which claimed the iPhone 3G can “access all parts of the Internet”.
While Internet surfing on the iPhone is one of its major features, it does not support some Internet display technologies such as Flash or Java which are used to create many types of animations - these are also employed to display online videos. The inability to show websites using these technologies is contrary to Apple’s claims in the advertisement and therefore prompted objections to UK’s Advertising Standards Authority.
“We concluded that the ad gave a misleading impression of the Internet capabilities of the iPhone.” ruled the ASA. Apple now cannot show the ad in its current form.
Apple is yet to comment on the ruling.
