The HTC Legend has been available in Australia for the last couple of weeks now. Even though it’s been launched at time of stiff competition, e.g. iPhone 4, we believe that it will still do well in the Australian market. Its diminutive size, stylish design and the fact that it’s running Android 2.1 are factors that will appeal to many.
One way that we can tell how well a mobile device is going in the Australian market is by accessory sales. We can tell you now that HTC Legend Accessories are slowly starting to take off and catching up to HTC HD2 accessory sales. Not sure if it’ll beat the booming HTC Desire accessories but you never know!
The HTC Legend is one of the best-looking upcoming smartphones. Speaking of good-looking here’s a video of the HTC Legend user interface which is HTC’s very own HTC Sense (by PocketNowVideo).
Out of all the nifty features, I particularly liked the pinch and select feature which allows you to choose from multiple HTC Sense windows (see image above). I wish Apple did this on the iPhone. It’s a super quick way to jump from screen to screen instead of flicking through all the time.
I can’t help but notice my RSS feed being filled with the words “HTC Leo” (left in the above image) over the last couple of weeks. This warranted some investigation as to where this upcoming Windows device is actually at.
So Many Names
It seems that the HTC Leo also has other names on the web e.g. HTC HD2 and as the name suggests on the back of the device, looks to be HTCPRO.THREE. WMExperts also claim other names are HTC Thoth and HTC Athena 2. Hmmm…I searched all over HTC‘s website for more information and confirmation but nada.
Beast On The Way
If you read the specs list below, you’ll see why so many people are excited about this gadget. Let’s face it, HTC had to come out with guns blazing against the very very successful Apple iPhone 3G/3GS. Features that stand out are the 1GHz processor, huge 4.3″ screen, ultraslim design and dual flash LED 5 MegaPixel camera.
Camera: 5 MegaPixel with auto focus, High Power 2 x LED flashlight
Battery: 1230mAh
Wi-Fi, A-GPS Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
3,5mm Jack
MicroSD Slot
Other features: G-Sensor, motion sensor and light sensor, GPS/AGPS
HTC Leo Capacitive Screen, Yes!
Oh and of course one of the biggest changes to this HTC device is the inclusion of a capacitive screen. This is the very technology that distinguished the iPhone from all other smartphones at the time of its launch which changed and I believe improved the way that millions around the world interacted with their mobile devices. Here’s a YouTube vid of capacitive touch functionality on the HTC Leo:
Launch Date of HTC Leo?
According Engadget, the HTC Leo / HTC HD2 will be launched on October 12th, 2009 in Europe. That’s only 11 days away. Will keep you posted once we get news of when it will be released to other parts of the world.
If you’re after one of the best Windows Mobile smartphones of 2009, check out this video on the HTC Touch Pro2.
Earlier this year we reported that it would be available in quarter 2 this year meaning that its availability is anytime now.
Once you see this video you’ll agree that it’s manufacturers like HTC who are still giving viability to the Windows Mobile operating system. Although it’s got some very droolworthy specs, it’s still not enough to sway me from my new found love for the iPhone OS.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this device in the comments below.
Remember the Max 4G? Yes, the very first GSM/WiMAX phone that was rumored to arrive in Australia (the rumor that was later debunked, that it)? Up ’til now, we’ve only seen it fondled in Russia, reviewed in the Russian language. And as much as we’re just happy to see it, we’d be glad if it got reviewed in English.
If you’ve ever wondered how the slick HTC Touch HD is faring, then rejoice because it’s got its first review yet. Unfortunately for us, English-speaking populace, the review is in German (which is not surprising given the HTC Touch HD is slated for a Europe release).
Yep, the HTC Touch Pro gets a carrier in Australia and Hutchinson’s 3 Mobile is sticking its proverbial tongue out at Apple for bypassing them as an iPhone carrier. The HTC Touch Pro will be available to 3 starting on the last week of September and would be exclusive to the telco until mid-October.
It didn’t take long for the official press release to circulate after the leaks of the HTC Touch HD‘s pics came out. Just by its name it’s easy to figure out that the HTC Touch HD is a media-centric touch screen phone. It sports a 3.8-inch (yes, that big!) WVGA (wide-screen VGA) display so you can watch videos and view images as clear as they could get.
