I’ve got a Sandisk Extreme IV Compact Flash working beautifully with my Canon 5D Mark II. As more and more digital SLRs with video recording capability come out, fast write speeds will become increasingly importantly especially if they record 1080p HD like the Mark II.

I had a Sandisk 4GB Extreme III Compact Flash card for my Canon 5D M2 and was concerned that the 20MB per second wasn’t fast enough to record the 1080p videos that the camera is very capable of making. According to Cnet.com.au, our trusty Compact Flash memory cards are to be replaced with a new and faster card! Good news is that it could be available by as soon as next year; the bad news is that it may not be compatible with the current Compact Flash standard.

The new version, called CFast, has faster data-transfer speeds that could let photographers take more continuous shots without waiting for the camera to catch up, cut camera makers’ costs for built-in buffer memory, and make it swifter to review photos on a camera or copy them to a computer.
