In spite of the reported problems with the handset itself, the success of the official release of the iPhone 3G should have shaken up competitors with “iPhone Killer” contenders. Among these contenders though are a few good ones including the RIM BlackBerry Thunder.

OK, so it’s still admittedly a rumor, so take this one with a humongous grain of salt. It’s going around that RIM’s first flip-type device, the much anticipated BlackBerry KickStart, will sell for US$49.99 with T-Mobile when it comes out.

Ah, yes, the BlackBerry Thunder is RIM’s stab at the burgeoning Apple iPhone Killer list of smartphones. Unlike the current darling, the BlackBerry Bold, the Thunder takes on a large touchscreen form factor. And that touchscreen RIM device is slated to be released as the BlackBerry 9500.

Yep, Vodafone’s announcing a price cut in its BlackBerry plans. It’s a bit sudden but not altogether surprising. After all, the 3G iPhone IS coming soon. Gizmodo conjectures that Vodafone could be testing the waters, but for now, BlackBerry users could try mobile web browsing with lower prices than before.
