With an interface that is seamlessly integrated with the look of the BlackBerry OS, QuickLaunch will create shortcuts to most any application or function on your BlackBerry with ease and style. The menu can be displayed on top of virtually any screen so there is no more backing out out a program and navigating through folders to find icons. Quick easy access to what you want to do wherever you are!

QuickLaunch allows you to setup shortcuts to various functions such as Websites, Email, SMS and PIN addresses, Phone numbers, 3rd Party Apps, Videos, Images, Audio files, Device Info, Bluetooth Configuration, Camera, Video Camera, Delete your Call Logs, Manage Connections, Device Reset, Google and Wikipedia Search and other functions such as Blackberry Options, Calculator, Calendar, Event Log, Tasks, WiFi On/Off Toggle (Bold and Curve Versions) and more! Configure a convenience key to activate QuickLaunch and when pushed a menu will popup showing a scrollable list of your configured actions. The menu can be set to appear on the Right or Left side and can be shown on virtually any screen so you can perform any action without backing up and navigating through your homescreen and folders saving you time. Quick easy access to what you want to do wherever you are!

QuickLaunch does not run in the background taking up resources. QuickLaunch runs only when it’s opened allowing you to choose your previously configured shortcut, function or 3rd Party Application. Make your selection by highlighting the menu item you want and your off! QuickLaunch then exits until you run it again.

Find out why QuickLaunch has been the #1 selling BlackBerry Application of 2009.

The following 3rd Party Applications have been tested and are known to work with QuickLaunch. If you have tried an app that is not on this list and it works with QuickLaunch please let us know.

The SlingPlayer Mobile, previously available to other devices such as the iPhone already, is being ported to the BlackBerry platform.

December 30 marks the date the app’s beta release. BlackBerry users can now download and use the SlingPlayer Mobile that lets them watch content from their computers or their TVs via SlingBox. Of course, 3G connection or WiFi is required. There are only a small number of compatible devices for now, but more will follow in the future.

Since first released, a lot of apps that turned the iPod into an almost-phone already came into the picture. A new entry is TruPhone.

If you remember, we talked about TruPhone here in Mr. Gadget once when the company released TruPhone for the BlackBerry. TruPhone lets you use your iPod Touch into a phone and talk to people over the in the internet. For now, you can use it to talk to others using TruPhone in their iPod Touch, and others using Google Talk. In the near future though, TruPhone for the iPod Touch will let you make and receive calls from landline and cell phone numbers and even through Skype or MSN.

SMS Touch also lets you compose messages in landscape mode aside from sending messages out for free. The app supposedly sends an email through an SMS Gateway; the email arrives at the recipient’s phone as a plain text message. Unfortunately, according to source, the message won’t list your name as the sender and the “From:” box is filled out with binary numbers. Nevertheless, getting free text when you really need it for a one-time fee is not so bad, so it could be worth your while.

Here’s another one for social networking junkies: version 1.5 of the FaceBook app for BlackBerry smartphones is slated for release on January 2009. The new version will apparently be a more robust FaceBook application for the smartphone compared to the previous iteration.

According to our source, version 1.5 of FaceBook application enables users to create new accounts on the web site directly through a BlackBerry smartphone. Not only that, you can also view your friends phone numbers, request them, or share your own. If you want a list of your friends’ birthdays, you can directly import them from FaceBook, but the function extends beyond birthdays; you can also import events to your BlackBerry calendar complete with notification if you want to. A 2.0 version is also supposedly in the works meant for release later next year.

Are there times when you wish anything that comes out of your mouth could be “Googled” just as quickly? If you got the iPhone, then it’s now possible through the help of Google’s speech recognition app for search.

As long as there’s wireless connection, you can speak out your search term which is then sent to Google’s servers for decoding and listing of the final results. I very much doubt the app would be perfect at this point in time (I expect lags, totally irrelevant search results, and lots of other mishaps), but it would hopefully get better in time. The Google Search speech recognition app for the iPhone is available for free in iTunes.

VirusGuard was created using knowledge gleaned from creating anti-virus applications for other systems such as Symbian, Windows Mobile, iPhone, and Palm.

VirusGuard allows users to scan their Google Android devices (only the T-Mobile G1 at this point in time, of course) and their memory cards for any of the 400 known mobile malware variants. This is only the beginning though. SMobile Systems plans to bring the company’s SecurityShield suite soon that includes not only anti-virus, but also a firewall, anti-spam, wipe and child lock protection, as well as backup service.

The Apple iPhone gets another nice app for the geography-loving folks out there – Google Earth. Unlike Google Maps, Earth doesn’t give you exact addresses and similar, but instead shows you a 3D terrain of the earth complete with representations of land formations such as mountains.

The Google Earth app is available free at the Apple App Store and Australia gets first crack at it, although it will be available to the rest of the globe shortly. CNET was able to play with it and so far, it seems to be a winner. There are numerous controls not possible on the computer version of Google Earth since the iPhone app made full use of the device’s touch screen display. For example, if you drag your finger across the screen, the view also movies. Tapping and pinching equates to zooming in an out of the terrains and even tilting the hardware changes the view.

In typical Apple fashion, an independent developer filled in the gaps of what the iPhone should have had in the first place. Perhaps a more minor annoyance compared to the lack of copy and paste is the lack of landscape virtual keypad on email.

You got to wonder why there’d be a lack of landscape keypad on a feature where typing is of the essence, but it’s pointless thinking about that now. App developer, Mike Schneider, creates a fix in the form of TouchType. Just download it from iTunes for US$0.99, open the application to reveal a landscape keypad, type an email, and then send. As easy as that. Great news for people with huge hands and those who prefer two thumb typing.
