One of the main reasons why I wanted a 3G phone was to tether it to my laptop for use in places without WiFi (and as back-up connection too). I’m sure a lot of people think the same. Unfortunately, tethering isn’t allowed for the iPhone 3G, but just in case you need a connection for an emergency, and you got your new iPhone 3G with you, here are the instructions on how you can do so.

Some pre-release reviews of the iPhone 3G pointed out that making use of some of its features, most notably the 3G connection itself, drain its battery faster than expected. In time, a solution might be devised for the issue; for now though, Apple published a list of pointers to help prolong battery life.
