Thank you Logitech for making my lounge room tidier!
Like the recently released Logitech Harmony 300, the new Logitech Harmony 600 is mostly a no-frills simple-to-use universal remote that is geared more towards consumers who don’t have a squillion devices they need to manage. The Logitech Harmony 600 is designed to control up to 5 devices.
Two weeks ago, we talked about Logitech’s new no-nonsense easy-to-use universal remote control: the Logitech Harmony 300. After careful study of universal remote control users, Logitech have discovered that there are people out there who don’t want all the bells and whistles, but rather require a universal remote solution that’s easy to use with the 3 or 4 devices that they have.
This is where the Logitech Harmony 300 comes into play. It doesn’t have any fancy LED color screens nor is it designed to control one hundred devices at the one time.
With their new universal remote control, the Logitech Harmony 300, Logitech seek to make our lounge room entertainment experience even more relaxing. Logitech‘s goal with the newly announced Logitech Harmony 300 Universal Remote is to reduce both the amount of remote controls we have on our coffee tables as well as the attendant angst in setting up a universal remote.
Ashish Arora, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s digital home supports the above by saying, “With the Harmony 300, we wanted to deliver the Harmony remote promise of one remote to control your entertainment system to everyone. No more excuses — it’s time to get rid of the stack of remotes on your coffee table and simplify your home entertainment experience.”
I’m looking forward to getting my hands on one to review very soon.
Logitech Harmony 300 Press Release:
SYDNEY, Aust., — 6th April, 2010 — Logitech Australia today announced that it is bringing the benefits of the award-winning line of Harmony® remotes to people who have simpler home-entertainment needs. The new Logitech® Harmony® 300 Remote is simple to set up, replaces up to four other remotes and gives you better control of what’s attached to your TV with the touch of one button.
“Most universal remotes have a bad reputation for being hard to program and, as a result, you still use more than one remote to control the devices you own,” said Ashish Arora, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s digital home group. “With the Harmony 300, we wanted to deliver the Harmony remote promise of one remote to control your entertainment system to everyone. No more excuses — it’s time to get rid of the stack of remotes on your coffee table and simplify your home entertainment experience.”
Logitech’s research found that more than one-third of the 75 million U.S. and European households who have tried programming a universal remote had been dissatisfied with the process. But the Logitech Harmony 300 Remote is different. With a refreshed Web-based setup designed exclusively for Logitech’s newest remote, all you have to do is connect the remote to your computer, go to www.myharmony.com, tell us what devices you’re using and we’ll do the rest. In just a few simple steps you can have full control of your home-entertainment system.
Plus, your Harmony 300 remote will never be out of date. Logitech’s remotes are powered by an online device library that covers more brands than any other remote, including more than 225,000 devices from more than 5,000 brands — and the list grows every day. Whether you have an aging VCR or a brand new Blu-ray™ player, you can be confident your Harmony remote will control the IR devices you have.
Once you set up your remote, you can get to your entertainment fast with just one button press. The Watch TV button will turn on your TV and cable box in seconds — no additional remotes needed. The buttons are placed for easy reach, sculpted so your fingers can naturally find the right commands and grouped by how you’ll use them. For example, the buttons for controlling your DVD player are all grouped together. There’s even a set of programmable buttons that you can use to jump right to your favorite channels or use for custom control.
The Harmony 300 joins the ever expanding line of Harmony remotes, an award-winning family that includes the Logitech® Harmony® 700 Remote — which controls up to six devices and is rechargeable — and the flagship Logitech® Harmony® One with its stunning touch-screen display.
Pricing and Availability

Logitech is a world leader in personal peripherals, driving innovation in PC navigation, Internet communications, digital music, home-entertainment control, gaming and wireless devices. Logitech’s really pushing the “omnidirectional acoustics” technology with their new speaker sets – they have got both front and rear facing drivers in each satellite and the subwoofers push the sound downwards rather than out.
Omnidirectional acoustics sounds pretty nice for the more portable 2.0 sets, the Z320 and Z520, but we’re not sure if they will be that useful for comparatively more anchored 2.1 sets that, in our experience at least, are usually placed up against a wall, effectively blocking half of that 360 degrees. But Logitech speakers are reliably nice-sounding, and seeing as how we can not very well judge them without hearing them, we will have to suffice on specs for now. All of these are packing an additional input for MP3 players as well as a headphone jack.
The Z320 is a 10-watt 2.0 system marketed for laptops while its 2.1 cousin, the Z323, packs 30 watts (18 for the subwoofer) and RCA audio in at the same price. The more expensive Z523 2.1 set is pretty much the same as the Z323 with a bump to 40 watts of power. At the top of the list is the Z520, a 2.0 set with 26 watts of power. We will have to try them out for ourselves to see if this 360-degree sound is all Logitech says it is.
The much acclaimed Logitech DiNovo Mini Keyboard has been available for 1-2 months in Australia but we can’t seem to get our hands on them. Some of the big resellers are snatching them up before we can even press the “submit order” button Hopefully we’ll get dibs on the next batch due end of this month.
One of the biggest problems of deploying a HTPC system in your living room is often what to do with the mouse and keyboard. No one wants a full size keyboard and mouse sitting on the coffee table, yet that’s what most peripherals for HTPC machines look like. This is where Logitech comes in with its DiNovo Mini keyboard. The small, attractive keyboard elegantly solves a common HTPC problem. Read on to find out more.
