PicoTech USB Data Projector

I love getting new gadgets. Yesterday I received the tiny PicoTech USB Data Projector for review, to decide if we will be selling them on our own website or not. After an hour or so of fiddling around with it, I can confidently say that I am impressed with this little projector mostly because its minute size and the fact that it doesn’t require any powerpoint or batteries – simply hook it up to 2 x USB ports and you’ll be able to share your desktop for presentations etc.

Hoping to finalise a video review by tonight.

Thinking of even doing a giveaway… :) Stay tuned.

Video of the pocket-sized Optoma Pico Projector

Gone are the days when you needed to be as strong as Arnie Schwarzenegger to carry a data projector. I’m not exaggerating!

In the mid-90s, in my university days, data projectors were huge and were most-times insured given their fragility. That was only 10 years ago.

Here’s where we are today – presenting the Optoma Pico Projector!

Last week, we blogged on a video demonstration of multi-touch functionality that is said to be one of the major features of Microsoft’s next edition of Windows (Windows 7). Obviously one of the main ingredients for this to work is a computer touch screen. Get ready to see an explosion of these types hitting the web as we count down till the official release of Windows 7.

Samsung 82 Inch Ultra Definition TV Image Link
Just when you thought that you were the coolest kid in town with your 50 inch or so LCD / Plasma, out comes Samsung with it’s new 82 inch Ultra Definition LCD TV! It’s a monster!

The specs on the Samsung 82 inch are crazy:

The resolution of the UD (aka 4k x 2k) LCD Panel is 3,840×2,160px. Samsung already managed to get 120Hz technology and LED backlighting into this 82 inch UD panel.

If you’re in Los Angeles you can catch a glimpse of it at SID 2008.

What is 1080p?

What is 1080p Image LinkOk so I’m currently building a Media Centre PC with the hopes of having some cash left over for a decent new TV too. In my research about TVs the word “1080p” has popped up a lot and I’d thought I give a good definition of what it actually is from Wikipedia:

What is 1080p?

1080p is the shorthand name for a category of display resolutions. The number “1080″ represents 1,080 lines of vertical resolution,[1] while the letter p stands for progressive scan (meaning the image is not interlaced). 1080p is considered an HDTV video mode. The term usually assumes a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, implying a horizontal resolution of 1920 pixels. This creates a frame resolution of 1920×1080, or 2,073,600 pixels in total. The frame rate in Hertz can be either implied by the context or specified after the letter p, such as 1080p30, meaning 30 Hz.

According to Samsung, approximately 60% of TVs sold before Christmas will be 1080p! Now that I have this ticked off it’s not only time to start finding good value 1080ps for myself but also to include in our growing catalogue…need more hands…
