The new Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY advertisements are in a word, kick-ass. Rather than using recently-post-pubescent males to talk up what could be 2011′s gaming device of the year, Sony Ericsson have taken a different tack altogether and employed the services of comedian Kristen Schaal to demonstrate the gaming versatility of the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY. The transition from mild-mannered white-collar worker to screaming fully combat-equipped GI-Joe girl is most entertaining. Very funny! (see one of the videos below)
The new Nintendo 3DS was launched in Japan over the weekend and as usual the wintery weather did not deter Nintendo crazy Japanese from queuing for hours to get their hands on Nintendo’s first gaming device that features a stereoscopic 3D (glasses free) display.
Here’s a device that has received massive amounts of buzz on the web lately, the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY. As you may have guessed from its form factor, the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is both a smartphone and gaming machine which is modeled off the very popular Sony PSP. For mobile gamers around the world, the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY means one less device to carry!
2.5 Million sales of anything within 30 days is substantial – this is just what Microsoft has achieved with their latest gaming apparatus, the XBox 360 Kinect. The guys at Microsoft released it at the perfect time, with sales of the Nintendo Wii flatlining / decreasing which was a sign that the gaming market was set for a new innovative challenge. This morning as I was nonchalantly strolling through Melbourne’s CBD, I was confronted by a huge billboard over Melbourne Central reminding all passers-by that the Prince of Persia Movie would be at the movies on May 27th (Australia). Coincidently, my YouTube subscriptions feed had a recent game review from Gamespot.UK on…guess what? The Prince of Persia game entitled “The Forgotten Sands”.
A good friend of mine on Twitter (@Cheth) shared this video link this morning and I thought I’d do the same. This creative video by Patrick Jean shows how the world just may look if our favorite video games characters took over.
Who and what better to represent the pixelated world than the infamous cantankerous Donkey Kong throwing down barrels from the Empire State Building (see above).
Last year, we were fortunate enough to get the scoop on new Alienware gaming machines to hit down under. Even back then I was amazed at the sheer processing power of these gaming brutes.
A few weeks ago we received shipment of the ridiculously spec’d Alienware Aurora Desktop that was going to be given away as part of the Alienware Clan Challenge and decided to do it some justice by putting together an unboxing video review.
Please take note the unit that we reviewed was a fully geared up unit that’s valued at around AU$6,000. Don’t worry if you don’t have that much cash to splash on a gaming rig, as the basic config Alienware Aurora starts at around AU$2,299.

A friend of mine absolutely loves the Final Fantasy series and its musical scores. In line with this, as I was checking out my Youtube subscriptions, I came across this 7+ minute review (below) on the latest version in the FF franchise – Final Fantasy XIII. To be honest, I haven’t really kept up to date with the whole series and the last one I played, if I recall correctly, was Final Fantasy VII. So you can imagine how I was blown away by the beautiful graphics and non-stop, action-packed gameplay.
If I ever get the chance to play more games this would definitely be one of the top on my list.
I don’t get enough time to play many games these days, but I’m always interested in what’s out there and how game development is changing.
As many of you know the last game I invested (too much) time into was World of Warcraft. I miss it but will not go back due to the fact that once I start playing, I just can’t stop – especially miss PVP!
Here’s a Youtube vid from the guys at Gamespot giving us insights to what games we should be looking forward to in 2010.
Two games that caught my attention were Metroid : Other M for Wii and the new Gran Turismo 5!
