Novothink Surge iPhone Solar Charger Case

Last Friday, we talked about Uniden’s announcement of the first wireless charger in Australia. In line with this, I noticed this video by the guys at GearLive which showed a demonstration of Powermat’s new wireless charging range. I really liked the idea of the portable wireless charger that means you don’t need to carry a heavy messy AC charger to charge up devices like iPhone or Blackberries. It goes one step further than my current Dexim iPhone Portable Charger.

The more competition in this area the better the end result will be for us consumers

Interesting how he talked about charging efficiency rates between other similar wireless devices – looks like Powermat takes wireless charging quite seriously!

And as one of the final posts of 2009, I thought I’d zoom into the Appstore and see what were the best grossing apps at the end of 2009 (Australia).

Here were the final winners:

3. James Cameron’s Avatar (GameLoft) – AU$12.99

I’m surprised that TomTom is still number one considering that there are better value GPS apps now available in Australia like CoPilot. It’s a decent GPS app, but CoPilot’s interface is superior in my opinion – I like how CoPilot allow you to pinch and zoom on the actual navigation screens. At the moment it’s also only AU$59.99! $40 cheaper.

Need for Speed has always been one of my all-time favorite PC games, especially due to the fact that you could add weird and wonderful cars into the game like the BatMobile or an Imperial Speeder Bike.  I may download this one next over the break.

Last night I downloaded #3, James Cameron’s Avatar and was engrossed in the vivid graphics and playability. It reminds me a bit of when I had my night-elf hunter in World of Warcraft so I am treating it with extreme caution considering I used to be a hardcore player…

While they look incredible, I’m not really sure how many people would pay US$999.99 for the new Harman Kardon GLA-55 2.0 Speakers. Maybe for lovers of Swarovski crystals or ice bergs? And they’re only 2.0 speakers too!

A few weeks ago the generous people at iWorldAustralia sent me an iPod Touch gadget to review. This time it was the Novothink Surge Solar Charger Case for iPod Touch. I was slightly disappointed it wasn’t the iPhone version but thankfully a friend in the office loaned me his iTouch to try it out with (I did try to jam my iPhone in but it was too thick for the case!).

Yes, a solar panel forms most of the back of the case – don’t worry its covered by thick transparent plastic which will protect it from accidental breakage. This solar panel churns out 5.5V at 100mAh in full sun which means more than enough power for your iTouch.

Other things I liked about the Novothink Surge Solar Charger Case for iPod Touch, were the battery charge indicators and the fact that it doesn’t add a ridiculous amount of bulk given its solar charging capabilities built in. I can’t forget to mention the grippy material the rest of the exterior is made of which means that it won’t slip out of your hand too easily.

This case is perfect for those who tend to spend a lot of time outdoors and preferably in a country / city where sun rays are in abundance – not recommended for people to be indoors for most of their days. Cave-dwellers, sorry
