Last night I put in an order for the Pebble Steel ($249 direct from Pebble website), which is Pebble’s latest smartwatch offering. The Pebble Steel was named as one of the top 10 devices at CES 2014 which is a very noteworthy accolade considering the thousands of gadgets that were announced! One of the best things I like about the Pebble Steel is that it works with both iOS and Android devices, unlike the other main smartwatches like the Samsung Galaxy Gear and Sony Smartwatch 2 which only play with Android.
New Steel Design Comes with Steel and Leather Band
As its name suggests, the Pebble Steel is made from milled stainless steel and features tough Corning Gorilla Glass – the latter being famous for being scratch and shatter proof which is why many manufacturers are using it to cover smartphone displays. I really like how each Pebble Steel also comes with a leather band – nice touch to give owners a choice to change between both leather and steel bands. For those who know me, I also design leather cases which obviously means that I love leather and will definitely make use of it both bands! I’m also in a suit most days, so either bands will complement my business wear.
Battery Lasts for up to 7 Days
The Pebble Steel smartwatch will last between 5-7 days before requiring a recharge. This is much better than the current Samsung Galaxy Gear which needs you to juice it up every 2 days or so. I don’t need any more gadgets that require that kind of maintenance!
The fact that the Pebble Steel is waterproof up to 5 metres deep gets a huge tick on my list. Yes, that means you can swim with it and enjoy running in the rain without fear that the screen on your Pebble Steel will go blank and never show anything ever ever again. The thought of getting Twitter notifications while swimming
Looks Stylish, is Practical
I like the styling of the Pebble Steel compared to the other smartwatches out there. The thin slightly large rectagular face and the tri-color LED screen look pretty nifty. I especially like the analog clock face screen which looks so much like the real thing.
Main features of the Pebble Steel:
