This weekend I finally had a chance to play around with Instagram‘s new Hyperlapse App and had a lot of fun! In the past it took a little bit of fiddling around with your video or digital SLR to capture a proper time lapse, but now with Hyperlapse it’s child’s play! Simply download the app to your iPhone, hold it still (recommend that you use a stand), press record and voila!
What is Hyperlapse?
Create amazing time lapse videos with Hyperlapse. Using Instagram’s in-house stabilization, Hyperlapse shoots polished time lapse videos that were previously impossible without bulky tripods and expensive equipment.
See above for a timelapse that I captured of the view from our apartment in Jordan, Hong Kong. I used iMovie to attach music and title. I don’t think it’ll be long till Instagram provides more editing capibilities to Hyperlapse videos – at the moment it’s very barebones. Once you capture a timelapse, Hyperlapse then gives you options to share via Facebook or Instagram (where you’ll need to trim to 10 seconds).
I’d also like to see Instagram increase time lapse speed from it’s current maximum of 12x to 24x so we can capture some overnight lapses too.
Unfortunately Hyperlapse is only available for iOS. I believe that the Android version won’t be too far away. As for a Windows version…
Have you tried Hyperlapse yet? What do you think?
