I’m slightly cynical about the way that a prototype of the next iPhone would be left in a bar for any unsuspecting person to find. Nothing against Gizmodo, but what are the chances of one of the world’s top gadget blogs randomly finding one of the world’s most sought after gadgets / scoops in a public space. Apple should have let a smaller and obscure Australian technology blog find the device in a cafe in Melbourne! Hint hint wink wink tickle under chin.
At the end of the day Apple’s hype-generation machine worked superbly and we have a clearer glimpse of what the next generation iPhone will look like right?
The team at Gizmodo (love @bruff & @ellyhart) have done an exemplary job at shooting photos of the new device and explaining its revamped ins and outs.
Apple Why You Make Me Change My Gear, Again!?
At first glance, I was selfishly disappointed that in a couple of weeks I’ll have to replace all my existing iPhone infrastructure i.e. car mount, cases and desk mount. The shape is different : more squarish with new volume buttons and front-facing camera. The more I look at it, the more it reminds of the HTC HD2 for some reason. I am, however, getting use to the new flatter shape although it looks it won’t sit in the hand as my current curvacious iPhone 3GS.
Main features discovered on iPhone 4G / Next iPhone:
- Front-facing video chat camera
- Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
- Camera flash
- Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
- Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×460 display thrown around before – it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
- What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
- Split buttons for volume
- Power, mute and volume buttons are all metallic
Take note, that this device is still a prototype and there are possibly design changes to the case that can still be made.
P.S. Mum if you’re reading this, I meant no disrespect for using your name in my title :S
