iPhone 4 Is Unveiled At WWDC 2010

Presenting the iPhone 4!

Yes, the next version of the iPhone was uncovered by Steve Jobs at WWDC 2010 only minutes ago. And it looks like an amazing device that has a huge swag of new features incorporated into it. I must say that despite all the rumours I’ve been following on the web, I was still surprised by how much of an upgrade the iPhone 4 is over the iPhone 3GS. I’m particularly happy about multitasking, increased display resolution, new Apple A4 processor, gyroscope, 5 Megapixel camera, LED Flash, 802.11N and course improved battery time!!

Not particularly impressed that I’ll have to replace a lot of my current iPhone accessories but yes, I’m appreciative of the new slim design.

Steve Jobs was quoted saying that “We think it’s the biggest leap we’ve taken since the original.”

One of the biggest features of iPhone 4 is FaceTime which is the name given to their video calling. Unfortunately, due to limitations with most carriers, it will only operate on WiFi only and between iPhone 4 users. Personally, video calling for me is not a huge must-have especially since it’s been available on phones for a couple of years now. However, with Apple backing this type of technology and the mass adoption of the iPhone, this could be a turning point in the technology.

iPhone 4 Availability

The new iPhone 4 will be on shelves June 24th, 2010 in five select countries : U.S., France, Germany, United Kingdom and Japan. In July, 18 other countries will also be able to access the new Apple device. I’m fairly confident that Australia will be on the list but we’ll keep you posted nonetheless.

So there you have it for now. The new iPhone 4. Do I like it? Heck yeah.

… features catching up to what has been available in many devices for a long time… pity no flash support & video conferencing only between other iphones, otherwise may now be worth a look

It’s awesome, sugoi, bombtastic! I love it! Sure all the features have been around in other phones, but Apple always makes it more “happening”!!

More Happening?… be better to say Apple know their market and with cult like hype know how to sell it to people… the video conferencing does not even work over a 3G network.. more happening? but as the old saying goes ‘build a better mouse trap and the world will beat a path to your door’…Apple have done great things to smart phone market, once working correctly they will bring video conferencing to the attention of the masses… its great you love your phone… i prefer to use mine as a tool and love my family…off now to video conference with my wife over the 3g network :)

A skype app would make good use of the front camera, but will probably need a jailbreak to work.
All that’s stopping me and a zillion others from buying this now is the lack of flash support.

I’ll wait to see if Facetime actually improves video calling in any way. Not holding breath.

The feature list doesn’t mention iAds – little ads that will run at the bottom of the screen. Apple positioned it as a way for developers to make money, but really it looks like a move into the mobile advertising space with millions of dollars worth of advertising dollars already committed by big brands.

My fav feature would have to be the gyroscope which will let applications track the phone’s motion in three dimensional space.

C’mon July already.
