HTC Desire Australia with Telstra

For those of you out there who are deadset keen on being one of the first to get your hands on an HTC Desire when it lands in Australia, register your interest at Telstra here.

Some of my friends are attending the HTC Desire launch event in Sydney today so it looks like it’s not too far away at all. As mentioned in my previous post, HTC announced that it would hit the ‘land down under’ in Q2, where Q2 is now only days away!

I’m interested to see who will hit our shores first: the Nexus One or HTC Desire. I believe that early-adopter Android fans will flock to whichever hits here first thus securing a formidable foothold for the future.

I’m really hoping that Telstra has learned some good lessons from the past and will try hard to complement rather than destroy start up times etc on the device.

Re: Telsra bloatware… Using telstra 6.5 on TP2 and it is a 100% improvement on their 6.1 effort.. yes until they learn that people should have choice what to view first instead of pushing sites have no use for and unable to deselect except e.g push email sites you instigated… smacks of commerical interests…(but a registry edit will fix to some extent)having said that their 6.5 is as fast as HTC Generic 6.5 so going in right direction, moved over to next G network and actually find some sites useful… doubt the poor people with only half a brain would be able to read the above comment or for that matter need a phone so agree they won’t order…

Thanks for the feedback as always Palah. Telstra have some smart people on board in the mobiles area and I’m sure they’ll do all they can to ensure the HTC Desire experience isn’t hampered by their branding. Agree that there are always ways around removing this stuff.

Unfortunately I can’t remember where I read it, but one of the journos present at the recent unveiling in Sydney said that Telstra is pushing the Desire as a customisable experience – you can kill all the Telstra shit if you want.

Even if you couldn’t, one would expect Cyanogen to work his custom ROM magic on this one…

Hi. Does anyone know whether the HTC Desire when bought outright from Telstra (supposedly at AUD779) will still be preloaded/programmed with the Telstra brand and materials/software? I’m referring to the “Telstra shit” that Tim is talking about.

Yes it will have preloaded Telstra gack on it. Telstra will only have exclusive rights for 3 months though.
