Logitech Harmony 300 Universal Remote Control

Two weeks ago, we talked about ’s new no-nonsense easy-to-use control: the Logitech Harmony 300. After careful study of universal users, Logitech have discovered that there are people out there who don’t want all the bells and whistles, but rather require a universal remote solution that’s easy to use with the 3 or 4 devices that they have.

This is where the Logitech Harmony 300 comes into play. It doesn’t have any fancy LED color screens nor is it designed to control one hundred devices at the one time.

The 300 was made for the user who just has a basic home entertainment setup and want to control all of these simply with the one remote. Ignoring my gaming consoles, I have such a setup. My home entertainment systems is made up of a TV, Set top box, DVD player and Audio system – 4 devices. Setting up the Logitech Harmony 300 was as easy as 1-2-3.

Setup Steps – So Easy!
Here are the four simple steps you take to setting up your Logitech Harmony 300:
1. Note down the manufacturer and model details of each of my devices (normally on front face of device)
2. Connect the remote to my PC / Mac via provided USB Cable
3. Enter in all your device information that you noted earlier
4. Done! Now you can start controlling all your devices via the Logitech Harmony 300

The whole exercise took around 4 minutes and was super easy. We’ve now hidden the other remote controls and use the Logitech Harmony 300 on a daily basis – love it!

Similiarly, I have a dvd player, tv and also a PC connected to the TV. With the Logitech 300, not only me will benefit, my mum who is less tech inclined can control all these with just one remote, and then she don’t need to juggle between the volume control on the TV and the forward, rewind buttons on the DVD controller! With the controller, my parents do not need to re-orientate through the new controllers and memorise which to press when we add a set-top box into the setup!

I have a DVD player, Sony home theater, HDTV and TWC digital cable box … and three remotes to handle it all – two of which are ‘universal’! The Logitech would allow me to properly integrate all of my devices in a much more friendly way.

My parents really, really need this device! They have TV, Foxtel, DVD player and VCR. We have written out detailed instructions for them on how to operate each device and switch between devices. If this remote would make those instruction lists and “help” phone calls obselete, then it is for us! They would regain their independance and dignity in the “tech” world.

You know the excitement of moving into a new home? The furniture, the paint, the renovation works… the exhilaration in seeing it finally complete for the first time… And then there it is. The home theatre system. Spanking new Denon AVR3310 connected to a Denon 1910 BR Player, a Panasonic 50V11, a cable set top box, all ready to release sweet sweet 5.1 surround from the Anthony Gallo A’Diva Tis. Everybody sits in front of the couch, waiting to be blown away by ultra deep blacks and startlingly clear sound.

Except 20 min later the owner himself hasn’t figured out which remote is used to turn on the tv. That is sad. The excitement, by then, has waned.

My new house will be ready soon and I’m hoping to avoid such a situation. Please help?

Since resigned to my daily job as a Software Engineer (to pursue my interests in Android), I have become glued to the TV. With the set-top box and the home theatre system connected, it has become a huge pain searching for the right remote to change the volume or the channel! It would be great for me, if you could spare me one!

I have a foxtel box, PS3, DVD player, a beagle puppy, and a TV that no longer has a remote because the beagle discovered she loved the taste of the rubber buttons and chewed it to pieces. Lucky she’s cute. :-)

Like most people these days, I have many devices attached to the TV. I have a set top box, 2 DVD players and a stereo system connected to the TV. My wife gets confused about which remote to use to do different tasks. The kids don’t seem to have as much of a problem. An universal remote would make my wife much happier.

Tivo, Optus Box, DVD/VCR player, Laptop and TV all connected and enough cables for the dog to chew for hours and enough remotes to ensure the kids lose at least one a day. We love our home entertainment centre but could really do without all the swearing as we try and figure out which button to push. By the way does this remote have a mute button for my husbands snoring??

What can I say we’ll do up the “Theatre Room” and now have a Nana pocket holder on one chair for all the remotes – it looks pathetic, we need to move into the 21st century instead of playing guess the remote every time someone wants to change channel

My husband would just die for this controller as he has two tvs and a dvd so this would make him the ultimate control freak, king of the controls. My son has Playstation a stereo, and a DVD set up to his TV.

Last Wed the 13 year old 68com Sony went bang! Forced to move into 2010 we purcased a new LCD and determined to now be tech savy got a PS3, PC, home theatre and dvd – aaahhh all those remotes – please help as it now takes 5 min to switch it all on to just find playschool for our 3 year old – prehaps he could operate this all better then me :o )

Wires and remotes are everywhere,
cant get to the couch with all that stuff there,
Logitech helps me to tidy my place,
before my Mrs gets that look on her face!

Logitech at my place can promise me a long happy life,
perhaps even becoming friends with my wife,
I want to be cool, hip and tech savy,
but my jumble of remotes is not making me happy.

I’ve got a hifi, LCD TV, DVD player, digital cable box and DVR setup which have their own individual remotes. Sometimes I have problem searching for the remotes as they always get misplaced by the wife or kids. To make my life easier, I need an easy to use remote that can activate all the devices with a single touch and thats why i like to win the Logitech Harmony 300 remote.

3 remote controls for out video, dvd and plasma is stressful with the kid’s always messing up and pressing the wrong buttons so with 1 remote my life will be more Harmony and less technical.

Logitech continues to make some of the best interfaces on the planet. The logitech revolution is still my favorite mouse 3 years and running. I would recommend any Logitech product to a mac or pc user. They support users becoming power users!
