Late last month, we introduced you to FLPR created by New Potato Technologies, a little gadget that attaches to the bottom of your iPhone / iPad / iPod and transforms it into a universal remote control. It’s such a value add to these devices especially since they’re with us most of the time even within our households – it only makes sense to make them do more tasks! FLPR Installation Was Easy

This weekend, I was finally able to unpack one of the FLPR dongles and set it up with my home entertainment. All in all it was super easy to set up the FLPR!

Here are the steps I took:

  1. Downloaded and installed the FLPR App for iPhone
  2. Selected Device Type
  3. Selected Manufacturer Type
  4. Specified a name
  5. First device completed
  6. Repeated for other devices

While it located and found IR codes stored in the FLPR database for my LG TV, it couldn’t find my BUSH digital set top box – maybe because it’s an el cheapo (Dad got it when my other konked out). The good thing was, you can still do a manual / custom install. Simply select the “Custom” option and specify device details again – this time you’ll have to put the FLPR against the infrared tip of the remote and sync each button individually.

After only a couple of minutes I could control my TV and Digital Set Top Box via my humble iPhone 3GS!

Wow, I really like the idea of being able to control all my devices with the one device! I’m always misplacing one remote or another but I’m glued to my ipod touch!

Since I started using my iPod touch last month, I am now able to do everything I enjoy doing from looking up a recipe to allowing my 3 year old daughter to learn her ABC’s on the way to school. Why not also be able to change a channel on Tv or set the DVR to record right from my iPod! Genious!

What a great way to possibly override my husbands control of the remote!!!!!

While I’m “on” my iPhone and he is zombied into the TV…I can secretly control channels and volume. Yahoo!!

I hate clutter and this will eliminate one more device on my coffee table. I also loose my iPhone a lot less than my remote.

Being able to control the many devices in our telly cabinet with one remote is a real bonus, but the thing that I’d like most will be sneakily switching the channel when my wife has commandeered the TV for soaps!

I love the idea of taking my iPhone and making it a remote control that will be far better than the junky one the cable company “gives” me. So, one Potato, two Potato, New Potato Technologies…..

My old TV & VCR have been sitting idle because the remotes are spoilt and no longer available. Here’s where I think the FLPR remote provides exceptional value and flexibility. I would program it to learn the codes for any old TV, VCR, etc, & transform it to a new remote control. It will help give a new lease of life for my old applicances and more importantly will save me a ton of money.

FLPR is an OK product, but be sure to check out the Re by NewKinetix. A *much* better product for less money!

When my husband goes into hospital, he would be able to turn down the loud tv of the person next to him and I would be able to switch on the projector at work that constantly does not get used as people can not find the remote – we would love to fight over the FLPR!

This is a such a great idea, I have always wished my phone could do this! In our household we are constantly losing the (3) remote controls down couches, under toys, in the other room, etc.. With one of these we could just call the phone/remote and instantly hear where it is hiding! Well I’d hope I wouldn’t misplace my phone so badly – the kids can use (and lost) the old fashion remotes! ;-P

As a dinosaur many of the apps and functions of new devices escape me but this one sounds great. No more lost remote, eureka.

We have enough remotes to ensure the kids lose at least one a day, or the dogs chew one a day, or the batteries go flat regularly. We love our devices but could really do without having to remember which remote is for what, assuming we can even find a working one!
