CoPilot Live for Android : Easily One of the Best GPS Apps for Android

When I got my HTC Desire from Telstra to review, I quickly dove into Google Apps Marketplace in search of one of my favorite GPS applications for smartphones – this is of course CoPilot Live for Android by ALK. I used CoPilot way back when I had a Windows Mobile device (seems so long ago now), loved it on the iPhone and so wanted to go with what I knew worked well. CoPilot is still amongst the top three GPS smartphone apps that I have used. Thankfully, the guys at ALK know how much I love their software and provided me with a free version to play with on the HTC Desire.

CoPilot Live for Android Setup Was A Breeze

Installation was just a matter of downloading the software from Google Android Marketplace then applying my license code. In a matter of a few minutes, I was staring at the familiar and welcome sight of the CoPilot Live interface. Setup was quick and easy.

It’s So Fast On The HTC Desire!

I’ve been using CoPilot Live for iPhone for almost a year so I can confidently say I’m quite familiar with most of the functions and performance. Even though the Android version is almost exactly the same, I observed a noticeable difference in terms of speed – particular with the rendering of maps when you zoom ahead or around your current location. This has to be the result of the much more powerful processor (1Ghz Snapdragon) on the HTC Desire. This took my experience with CoPilot up another notch!

CoPilot Live For Android Has It All

As mentioned in my CoPilot Live for iPhone review, I’ve tried many GPS apps for mobile devices but the one thing that makes CoPilot one of the best is the rich and simple-to-use  interface.  For me, it strikes a very good balance between function and form – in the past, I’ve used GPS software that looked amazing but lacked functionality and other way around. I highly recommend it.

Accurate Maps on CoPilot Live For Android? Yes!

In terms of map accuracy, I am based in Melbourne and found 90% of the maps were correct. The only incorrect paths provided were due to recent roadworks in the Docklands area. I’m sure these will be amended in the next update.

Tweet Functionality Please!

My only gripe is that CoPilot Live 8 doesn’t have Twitter functionality built in yet (only has Facebook). Hope ALK incorporates this in soon I think integration with location based social media sites like FourSquare would make sense too.
