This time last week I was at Flip’s Launch Party that was held up in Sydney. When I got the invite, alarm bells rung in my head when I saw that it was going to be held in the suburb of Redfern (Carriage Works) – has been known as a Police trouble spot in the past and a close friend got her bag stolen via car-jacking not too long ago.

I Survived Redfern!
I got there a bit early and since I was slightly knackered from early flight for Dell / Alienware Gaming Laptop launch at Shangri La, I thought I’d have a quick nap in my hire car (trusty Hyundai Elantra from Thrifty). Given the aforementioned, I made sure that the doors were locked and windows slits not wide enough for truculent characters to reach in and steal my gadgets
My fears were halved when I remembered that I grew up in Melbourne’s western suburbs and it couldn’t be much worse here. Having hung out with some of Melbourne’s craziest gangs, I’ve develop some invaluable street smarts; like don’t bother debadging VW Combis – they’re too heavy to wear around your neck all day. Still…had to be careful.
Famous Flip Simplicity
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a photographer (see photo he took below) and rollerskating-Flip-toting peeps.
They were demonstrating how easy Flips were to use and then how easy to upload and watch your video masterpieces. Laptops were setup at strategic points in the venue displaying recent Flip uploads. The ease-of-use factor is the major reason why the Flip has been such a success.

Flip Sure Know How To Throw A Party
In the background there was a skate half-pipe ramp where we watched skaters risk their necks for a couple well landed airs.
Being a wannabe-popper myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the hip-hop dancers. Especially this kid who was poppin’ like a pro!
Unfortunately I couldn’t stay for the whole event, but I think all media, journos and bloggers had a good night, thanks to Cisco Flip.
