Nokia 3720 Classic: Beaten, Drowned, Dropped But It is Still Working!

Nokia3720Over the past few days, the folks over at Nokia have been putting an unknown handset through a variety of torture tests on video, presumably to whet our appetites for an imminent announcement. The poor little guy has been dunked in a pint of beer, smacked with a golf club, punted through the air, drowned in a pool and even dropped two stories off a ladder — each and every time followed by the phrase “it’s still working!” Suffice it to say, this new Nokia kit is ruggedized and it fairs extremely well in a variety of real world accident scenarios.

What you’re looking at is supposedly the Nokia 3720. It’s going to either be announced, or start shipping, in September and is Nokia’s first handset that meets the IP54 specification for being both water and dust proof. As much success as Nokia has had — and still has — in emerging markets, it wouldn’t be a stretch to assume the Finnish company’s lineup is already jam-packed full of durable handsets. That assumption, at it were, would be wrong. Say hello to the company’s first water and dust resistant handset, the Nokia 3720. With IP54 certification, the 3720 will also be shock resistant if and when it drops some time in September. Beyond that, our guess is that we’re looking at a pretty inexpensive handset that will run S40 and never make it to this side of the pond.

Here are the leaked information about the specifics of the IP54 certified Nokia 3720:

  • Water and dust resistant (IP54 certificate)
  • Battery life: over 2.5 weeks standby time
  • FM radio
  • Integrated flashlight
  • S40 OS
  • 2.2-inch QVGA display, 16M colors
  • 25MB internal memory
  • MicroSD card slot
  • Bluetooth
  • 3.2 megapixel camera

It is pretty decent for a handset that can take a serious beating. Nokia will certainly be announcing this scrapper soon but for the time being, it’s rumored to be hitting the streets some time in September at an unknown price.

this sounds great one thing I need to know is does it have a loud speaker when on speaker phone, and does the blue tooth drain much power when left on.

I have had and returned 3 phones in the last 2 months and sorry to say, that one was a Nokia but the best one I had was the Nokia 5500 another strong and rugged phone I hope this one is as good

Thanks again
