Jawbone Prime Review – Best Bluetooth Headset Ever

Jawbone Prime Bluetooth Headset - Highly RecommendedI love it when technology not only works but looks great. Here’s one excellent example – the Jawbone Prime. I have tested countless bluetooth headsets over the years from manufacturers such as Blueant, Plantronics, Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson and many others. Although many were good, none have been able to properly deal with the two biggest gremlins that plague bluetooth headsets: background noise and echo. To date, it is only Jawbone who have done this effectively.

Finally Get to Play with Jawbone Prime

I’ve been using the Jawbone 2 for a couple of months and loved it, so you can imagine my delight when I heard that Aliph was releasing a newer version (Jawbone Prime) earlier this year with enhanced Noise Assassin technology and also more earpiece options. My lovely lovely cousin sent me the Jawbone Prime a couple of weeks ago. However due to crazy events happening in my life (see post on “Krrunching My Way to Uniquely Singapore“), I have not been able to open the box until this morning.

New Ear Fit Options

As expected, it does everything that Jawbone headsets are famous for. The size is almost exactly the same as the Jawbone 2. It comes with a whole lot more earbuds / earpieces, recognizing that no two ears are the same. I like the new earbuds that come with a loop built-in as this means I can wear the Jawbone Prime without the aid of the ear clip – it’s more compact to carry in your bag.

Jawbone Prime Connects Better

This time I found the Jawbone Prime connection with my iPhone 3GS was superior to that of the Jawbone 2 – it’s faster and more persistent. I also like the fact that I, again, didn’t need to enter in a PIN when pairing the devices. Although, yes I am sensitive about security issues, how many times have you heard of someone tapping into your phone call while you’re on a bluetooth headset? My last count is ZERO.

Love Noise Assassin Technology

And of course, the Noise Assassin technology is better than ever. I’m able to take calls in the middle of a busy street with the recipient totally unaware of just how busy my environment is. I remember using my Jawbone 2 once on one of the busiest streets of Melbourne when there was a Harley Davison vrrrming by and a helicopter overhead and still my caller couldn’t hear anything but my voice!

Accidental Power On Too Easy

The only downside to the Jawbone Prime that was also present with the Jawbone 2 is because the power button is embedded on its side, it can easily be triggered when pressed against objects in your bag. I’ve had this on a couple of occasions and found that my battery levels had been depleted without me knowing :(

Other than that, again Aliph have executed and delivered a world-class bluetooth headset and I highly recommend it to all.

Extra earbuds, better look and feel sounds really good! I am on a lookout for a good bluetooth headset. Hope this fits the bill!

Hi Arnold… using a z9i and it has been quite good even after dropping into cups of tea etc (more than once, still works fine :) . One thing that lets down is the shirt clip… it goes flying at the slightest touch and have ‘lost’ it more times than can count… Q. does the Prime have a clip etc to attach to shirt etc? as Z9i is also easy to press in pocket (dont use a handbag :) and MSVC dials last number etc or the Z91 turns itself off…

A sleek looking product and an on point review. Noise assassin sounds great! What options does it have for the anti- in ear bud user?

No the Prime doesn’t come with any sort of shirt clip but you can sort of maneuver the earclip it comes with it to latch onto your shirt, albeit not as secure as purpose-built z9i. I can tell you now that you can’t know out the clips from the Jawbone Prime that easily – they are held in quite securely. It comes with a wide assortment of ear buds and loops.

Haven’t tried dipping it in tea yet…

Is this device on sale anywhere in Aus?? I am a bit cautious giving credit card details to random web sites.

actually the Z9i has been completely submerged twice now… have read the planatronics Voyager Pro has the best call quality (but it is a beast of a thing)… the Prime came up good in cnets review but behind Voyager….anyway in the interest of your customers why not dip yours in some liquid and see if it still works… as the Z9i rates high on that point & be interesting to see if the Prime will also pass the tea test

Hahaha!

I honestly don’t think that a submersion test will be a factor in many of the potential buyers’ decision – especially as it comes with two securely held, ear clips!

I’ll scope out if I can get a Plantronics Voyager Pro to try out. Doesn’t look as cool as Jawbone but I’m always on the hunt for the best call quality.

Speaking of which, I’ve been using wide-band audio at the Telstra offices and the quality is like stereo in your ears!

why not a submersion test… my z9i is a good little swimmer… have it tucked under edge of sunvisor and forget sometimes and pull visor down z9i goes flying… many times right into the console cup holders, has also dropped into bathtub but got it out quickly… yes voice quality (esp)on business calls is No 1 priority so if you get a PTronics Pro or Disc 975 to test that would be good to compare with Prime.. although Jawbones website says the Prime is best BT ever… marketers are never shy little people are they :)

Mate anything that can allow for clear conversation when there is a very busy street, with Harley Davison and Helicopter overhead, should speak for itself without much help from marketers! :P
