It’s that exciting time of the year again – WWDC announcements. As predicted the new iPhone with all its juicy details were unveiled. The name for this new version is the iPhone 3G S and it comes with a whole swag of improvements; many of which were mentioned in our 7 Must-Have Improvements for the iPhone 3G post a couple of months back.

I’m over-the-moon that Apple have fixed the iphone!

Here are the main improvements of the iPhone 3G S:

  • Faster processor
  • 3.0 Megapixel camera with macro and auto focus
  • Video recording 30fps
  • Voice-control : iTunes and dialing
  • 7.2Mbps HSDPA, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, EDR
  • Enhanced battery life
  • Bigger 32GB capacity available

The only drawback to all this is it’s 2 grams heavier :P

Yes I Will Be Upgrading My iPhone 3G

Given the above, I will definitely be updating, mostly due to the new iPhone 3.0 OS, video recording and faster broadband speeds. These should enhance my daily workflow nicely.

Video on iPhone Will Make Vidcasting Even More Popular

Even though video recording has been available on mobile phones for a while, the fact that it becomes standard on the iPhone 3G S means that we should see a rise in video-sharing websites / apps in the upcoming months. I for one will be relaunching myself into the vidcast world.

iPhone 3G S Availability

According to Engadget, the new iPhone 3G S will be available in the U.S. from June 18th however it looks like August for the rest of the world. You’ll be able to pick up the 16GB for $199 and the 32GB for $299 on new AT&T contracts.

What do you think?

What are your thoughts? Have the changes tempted you to upgrade to get an iPhone 3G S? Please comment below.

It hasnt tempted me to upgrade but to actually buy one! Im going to surprise the business employees with one each! So how much is it costing most to upgrade? Do you have to payout your contract on your old one first? Im guessing at least a $150 fee

Mr.Gadget Says, in 6-9-2009 at 06:59:50 from 118.208.180.28 LOL! I’m not going to be first in line this time…

why not first in line… are you older and wiser?…wouldn’t you like to be the first to see the Apple logo light up in the dark and watch all onlookers go ooohhh :)

I never meant to be the first in line last time. I only received the accolade after the first guy forgot his ID in his car!

I’m not in it for the glory Palah ;)

Arnold… Who said you were never meant to be first? the first person dropped the pedal off his bike and you rode by… victory does not always come to the strongest, the best looking, the bosses son… it comes to those who are prepared… so on that point… you were meant to be first…

re the ‘new’ iPhone… most of the specs are getting closer to current smart phones, most impressive is the video playback and suppose 32 gigs of memory (aka N75) although personally only use 2 of my 8 gigs on i900but a 3mp camera does not seem a big improvement…It says improved battery life, can you now remove the battery as that was a big let down before…

I will be upgrading my firmware on my iPhone 3G to OS 3.0… get most of the software benefit. In another year (when my current one is out of contract) I will look at the latest and greatest.

I like the sound of faster processor, digital compass, better camera with autofocus and video, but the upgrade cost is likely to be big…

But I am most excited about MMS, tethering (maybe on Telstra), real bluetooth (A2DP) and searching. Shake to shuffle will be nice also! Cut and Paste… yes yes yes!

Come on! Hurry up 10 days!

I have been holding out for this release and putting up with my dodgy old 02 in the meantime. People tell me that there are still issues with this release, but when is there not? Either way, I can hardly wait to get my mitts on mine as I am quite sure it will revolutionize my life with its superior power and ability to make my morning coffee… Oh wait.. that must be in the next release. ;)
