While the basic idea of this Solar Powered Beanie is applaudable, I don’t think that it’s the best application of solar panels in clothing. A German designer has embedded stylish-cut solar panels into hats and gloves to create green-wear.
The above photo is an example of his handiwork – notice how the panels are shaped in the form of snowflakes? Some have argued that these are too small to generate prolonged power to any heating element. I would add that if it was cold enough to wear a beanie (let’s face it, it’s usually almost close to freezing temperatures), then one would think that it would be mostly overcast compounding the solar ray input problem.
I think the only real situation where this would be useful is for when people go skiing?
