Glimpses of Tokyo – December 2009

Posted By Mr.Gadget  Published in Events, Life

Dec

As promised here are some snapshots that I’ve taken over the last couple of days that will give you a feel of what Tokyo is like in December. It’s my first time here and I’m really enjoying it! Tokyo is far more bigger and busier than Osaka and Nagoya, that’s for sure.

Winter has descended upon Tokyo, so it’s quite cold. Not freezing, just cold. Funny how the temperature in this part of the world is similar to that of Seattle’s this time of year. Seattle’s cloudier though…

Now you’ve got a bit of context, here are my favourite photos:

Winter / Autumn colors of Tokyo

One of the shopping places in Shinjuku

Early morning biker

Prince Hotel is where I would meet up with my brother

I love Tokyo's architecture e.g. Mode Gakuen Cocoon Tower

Despite all the bikes, there's still smelly pollution in Tokyo

Trumpets bringing Christmas Cheer

How is this a Fire Extinguisher?

Another cyclist

Gates to Meiji Shrine Courtyard

Prayer Tree at Meiji Shrine

Japanese Lady wearing traditional kimono

Prayers at Meiji Shrine

Very nice capture of the city streets. I miss Tokyo. And yes there are millions of bikes, but they mostly sit outside of office buildings, rarely used.

Great pics of Tokyo. I have Filipino friends currently living/working there and plan to visit in the Spring sometime. Betcha it wasn’t as cold there as it is here in UK today! Enjoy your visit.

@Carbonboy Yes bikes, bikes everywhere! :)
@Bob Thanks :) I’m using a Canon 5D Mark II with 24-105mm lens
@Ollie I think Filipino friends are a must-have considering I’m Aussie-filipino myself :) Temperature wasn’t too bad actually. I think I would have definitely preferred to be in Tokyo than London…

@Michael Dude those vending machines are so cool. Did you know they also serve warm can drinks too? :)
