CoPilot Live GPS for iPhone and Android Released in Australia & NZ

CoPilot Live GPS iPhone Landscape View

I’ve been a fan of CoPilot Live GPS for many years. The last version I had installed was waaaaay back in pre-iPhone days circa April last year – I think I was using the iMate 8502 and Version 7 at that time. Their media person just contacted me today and asked if I would be interested in reviewing the iPhone version, so I’m looking forward to getting reacquainted as well as exploring the new iPhone-specific UI.

According to ALK Technologies (makers of CoPilot), it is the highest grossing Appstore app in Europe and top 20 in USA – it’s gotta be good!

I’ll post up my review when I’m finally able to get my hands on it. In the mean time check out more details in the press release below:

London, UK – 20th October 2009: ALK Technologies today announced that its best-selling sat nav app – CoPilot Live – is now available across Australia and New Zealand for Apple iPhone 3G , 3GS and Android smartphones.

Currently the #1 paid GPS navigation app in most of Europe, CoPilot Live brings full featured turn-by-turn navigation to iPhone and Android bases phones, complete with automatic route calculation, easy to follow 3D map displays and clear voice directions.

Navigating is easy with CoPilot Live. Simply enter a house number, street or point of interest and it immediately works out the best route. Detailed street maps are stored on the phone – not downloaded each trip – meaning no additional monthly fees.

On the road, iPhone and Android users will enjoy sophisticated guidance features usually found in the most expensive standalone Personal Navigation Devices or in-car systems. Features include lane assistance, realistic signpost displays and speed limit alerts. Complex motorway and major road exits are simplified with CoPilot ClearTurn™, providing a more realistic junction display.

Unlike some more expensive navigation apps, CoPilot Live makes the most of the phone’s in-built mobile Internet connection, providing useful connected ‘Live’ services including Live weather information and a free location-sharing service called LiveLink™.

Michael Kornhauser, Vice President and Managing Director of ALK Technologies’ CoPilot Division said “We are very pleased that CoPilot Live is now available for iPhone and Android users across Australasia. With advanced features, fluid finger touch interface and useful Live services, CoPilot Live is the premium navigation app that smartphones deserves.”

CoPilot Live is available to buy from iTunes, iPhone App Store and Android Marketplace as single map region versions for $79.99. Pricing is for unlimited use, with no on-going fees or subscriptions.

This is definitely good news for CoPilot. I’m also keen on the Android phones.

Hopefully they can do something for the older phones still though.
