According to Apple Insider, the iPhone 2.0 beta software update was recently showcased to a select group of people and it seems the iPhone is getting a few location-centric updates. First off, as you can see on the leftmost picture, it looks like we’ll be seeing GPS-based Google maps on the iPhone soon.
The picture on the right though, suggests that the iPhone might also get geo-tagging. For those who don’t know what that is, it’s the capability to label images with location metadata including precise coordinates and the name of the place where you took the photo. A gamut of other devices already feature geo-tagging, so I suppose this won’t convince anyone into buying the iPhone if they haven’t yet. What do you think—true or ‘shopped? If this is true, then it might be included among the announcements on the June event—you know, the one where we’ll reportedly first set eyes on the 3G iPhone?
