It seems there’s trouble in iPhoneland, Australia. No, I’m not talking about faulty or spotty 3G connections (although yes, that is a problem) and similar typical iPhone 3G stuff. I’m talking about iPhone customers getting billed ten times more than what they’re supposed to pay.
Over the last couple of days, ZDNet Australia reported very unfortunate incidents wherein iPhone users in the country almost had a coronary when they saw their phone bills go through the roof. Vodafone has reportedly admitted that they’re fielding numerous complaints from customers who are getting billed hundreds (in one sample case, $800) instead of the promised prices for the telco’s plans.
Vodafone explained that new iPhone customers were supposed to be shifted from their original plans when the billing time comes. Unfortunately, there were problems with transition. Likewise, according to CNET Australia, an Optus customer has suffered the same problem, getting billed $693 when he was on a $79 monthly plan and didn’t incur any excess data charges. The reason seems to have been the same with Vodafone’s, although Optus won’t comment whether the problem is widespread.
How about you; how does your iPhone 3G bill look like?
