The Phoenix Mars Lander took off from Earth on August 4, 2007 for a mission in Martian lands. The spacecraft was equipped with solar panels which harnessed the energy needed to create electricity used during the craft’s cruise stage. The projected cost of this project is US$380 million and just yesterday, the spacecraft reached its destination.
The Phoenix Mars Lander finally touched ground yesterday, March 25, 2008. It’s set to fulfill its original mission of digging for life on the frozen waters in Mars. Too bad we can’t all go with the spacecraft and meet the yet-to-be-discovered Martians, but at least a special live coverage was set up for its touchdown yesterday. You can view the recorded video of the Phoenix Mars Lander landing on Mars yesterday at SpaceVidcast in Ustream.tv.
