Engadget named the Vosonic VP5700 as a shame to the PMP name with its less than amiable exterior. Yep, I agree—the plastic overload turns me off. Nevertheless, if you ignore aesthetics and look deep, deep, deep, errrr, deep down, the Vosonic VP5700 could actually be an indispensable tool, most specially for photographers.
The Vosonic VP5700 serves as a photo back-up device when laptops aren’t available (in the field, for example). It’s equipped with a 3.5-inch colour LCD display and a detachable 2.5-inch SATA HDD. Transferring files onto it is as simple as sliding memory cards in the device. And since it’s classified as a multimedia viewer, it could also be used to listen to music or view videos. While it really IS useful, the advent of more affordable diminutive notebooks might eventually eclipse the need for it.
