Vodafone already has an existing 3G network that’s also partially-owned by Optus. That’s only 63% of the telco’s intended total network coverage though. The plan was to get the rest of the network ready by Christmas, but it will take a few more months before it rolls out.
The delay was reportedly caused by Ericsson that miscalculated the time needed for integration work and hence, the time required to finish the project. No new target date was given for now, but it will definitely take a few more months than what was anticipated, although it wouldn’t reach a whole year. This means that those areas expecting 3G coverage from Vodafone soon would have to keep waiting for now.
