The rumor’s been going around these past few days that Virgin Mobile is also picking up the iPhone 3G for Australia. That rumor is now confirmed: Virgin Mobile WILL BE, indeed, releasing the iPhone 3G in the country perhaps as early as this Friday although no official date was mentioned.
Virgin Mobile, being a wholly-owned subsidiary of Optus, would offer a plan for the iPhone 3G that’s quite similar to its parent company’s. The iPhone 3G 8GB version would be available for $0 up front payment on the 2-year $70 per month plan. The plan comes with $520 of texts and calls and 1GB of data download. Paying an additional $15 per month would up the data download capacity to 2GB, while an additional $30 (total of $100 monthly) would up it even further to 5GB. And, if you want the 16GB iPhone 3G, just get the Cap 100 plan to get it without additional costs or throw in $4 more per month with the Cap 70 plan.
