Taiwan-based company, VIA Technologies, Inc, has unveiled the VIA OpenBook mini-note reference design, a new player in the booming mini-note market. The sub-notebook has an 8.9-inch screen and uses the new VIA Ultra Mobile Platform and VIA VX800 digital media IGP chipset.
VIA OpenBook allows users to choose among their preferred connectivity option, depending upon their location including EV-DO/CDMA, 3G, and WiMax. The VIA OpenBook Mini-note reference design also comes with three USB ports and a card reader. Engadget has just unboxed a VIA OpenBook that runs on Windows XP and thought that its 1.4-inch thickness a bit cumbersome and its small keyboard looks cheap.
