Remember the Sonim XP1? It was dubbed the toughest phone in the world. But will the toughest still be the toughest if the predecessor claims to do a lot better? Meet the Sonim XP3 Enduro that claims to be the first “full submersible” GSM phone. And by “fully submersible,” I mean this little toughie is perfect for those who have a predilection of taking their mobile phones swimming.
According to source, the Sonim XP3 Enduro can withstand even more drops and shocks than even the tough original Sonim phone. And its keys – tested to be able to endure beyond 500,000 pushes. It can even operate under extreme temperature conditions as long it doesn’t go past the -20 degrees and +60 degrees Celsius marks. The battery is also replaced with a more powerful 1180 mAh battery and regarding the software itself; the phonebook can now be synchronized with MS Outlook. All the upgrade in toughness does come with a (small) price though – from a thickness of 22mm, the phone is now 24.6 mm thick. The Sonim XP3 Enduro is first available in Sweden, the Netherlands , Germany, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and Australia this November for US$370. The rest of the world gets it by the first and second quarters of 2009.
