Remember when Telstra claimed its NextG network could be home to the fastest iPhone 3G in the world? I’m sure a lot of people snorted in disbelief over such a claim, yet even so, Telstra‘s not just all talk.
According to source, Telstra’s just finished testing its newly-enhanced High Speed Packet Access technology. NextG’s HSPA network speed is expected to reach 21Mbps this year as a preliminary boost prior to even faster connections. Speeds will increase over time until it reaches 42Mbps tops by next year.
In other news, it seems that Telstra will be restricting sales of the Apple iPhone 3G to just 15 stores around Australia tomorrow morning. Sydney’s George St. branch and Melbourne’s Bourke St. branch will be the first one’s opening at 6AM. Optus, on the other hand, will be opening a few branches at midnight to sell iPhone to those who pre-ordered and paid a deposit, while Vodafone is brewing its own launch events.
