Oh yes, better believe it. According to a press release by Telstra, the company is now offering DRM-free MP3 downloads through the BigPond Music Service. By being Digital Rights Management (DRM) free, this means the music you download could be played in most devices including all iPod models and Sony Walkmans.
So you can download MP3 files and transfer them to your media players without having to worry that they won’t work on your device. The service will include music from the Big Four of the music industry (Universal, Sony BMG, EMI, and Warner) as well leading indie labels. The MP3 files which are encoded in the best quality available (256kbps and 320kbps) are also compatible with many players including but not limited to RealPlayer, Windows Media Player, and iTunes. Everyone in Australia can purchase music from the service, not just BigPond customers although members are given special privilege by offering a 12% discount for single tracks and 9% discount for albums.
