By the end of 2008, the new theoretical max speed of Telstra NextG would be 21Mbps, that’s more than just a few notches up from the current 14.4Mbps. I say theoretical due to the lack of compatible devices, of course, with the best phones able to only download with a speed of 7.2Mbps.
The significant increase in speeds could be attributed to an “improved backhaul capacity” as well as the 850MHz spectrum investment made by the company. That’s not all there is to it though – the NextG network would up the max speed to 42Mbps by next year. In fact, Telstra’s Long Term Evolution plans to bring mobile broadband to speeds up to 100Mbps in the future. So, with the right hardware, downloading in the blink of an eye isn’t impossible.
