OK, USB drives are generally quite boring. Sometimes though, something interesting pops up and you can’t resist but write about it. While some wow me for their impressive storage capacity and other unique form factors or features, this one wows me because it seems ill-fitted to today’s current economic climate.
Super Talent has just released a limited edition 18-Carat Solid Gold USB Drive. Yep, that’s a USB drive made of real gold. And you just got to ask why. Since it’s limited edition though, the target market is most probably the wealthy who can’t even feel the economic crisis. In fact, it’s being marketed as a corporate gift, perhaps for executives. It’s only available on pre-order initially, although “part number STC8GBPCKG” will be made available to retailers for US$599. If you even care about the specs, this golden pico drives has transfer speeds reaching 30MB/sec, encryption software, and the option to have your logo etched onto it.
