Remind me again what the whole point of the Asus Eee line was? Oh yeah—to provide an ultra-portable notebook that’s within reach of most people who’d want something like it. The original 7-incher fits the bill perfectly—affordable: check; small: check. The new Asus Eee PC S101, however, is none of the above.
The larger brown slab you see on the picture above is the Asus Eee PC S101. It’s being proclaimed as a “high-end” product of the Eee line, although in my mind, “high-end” and “Eee” are an oxymoron. According to Gizmodo, rumor is that it may not carry the Eee brand at all, which is better so people wouldn’t have the preconception of what the notebook should and shouldn’t be. The Asus Eee PC S101 would sport a 10.1-inch LED-lit LCD screen, 0.87-inch depth, and an Intel Atom processor. Depending on the SSD equipped onto it, its price could either be US$699 for the 32GB model or US$899 for the 64GB.
